NOT all drawers - Don't get me wrong, as many drawers as possible is great, but by putting drawers EVERYWHERE you can actually have a fair amount of dead space at the back of your cupboards. We're looking at Lazy Susans, or Hettich LS style pull out shelves, as they actually sit in like a shelf would in the corner, except you can pull them all the way out, so everythings still accessible

This is true for most designs but we designed out kitchen without dead space (no corner cupboards - ours is galley style)

Hettich and Blum do very good hinges and drawer runners.

Definitely go all draws!! My kitchen is practically all draws and it's fantastic!

I've got high gloss laminate (i think it's laminate) for my cupboards and drawers. It is shiny, and so very easy to clean as no grooves for much to get into when cooking/preparing.

Also, if you have an island bench, get powerpoints on the sides so you don't have to go to the wall to use electrical gadgets. I have and it is great.

With the spray hose tap, they suck. I had mine replaced with a normal tap now. They break easily, then leak inside the cupboard under the sink. I HATE IT with a passion.

Great thread! We too are in the process of renovating (totally ripping out and re doing 3 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, back deck, new staircase!!). So far laundry and one bathroom are complete.

Kitchen will have:
-Dishwasher with 2 drawers (so they can be operating one at a time, or both at once...)
-2 ovens
-Glass splash back
-Large floor tiles (can't remember the exact dimensions, but they are big)
-Bi fold window opening on to outside deck/bbq area (great minds think alike BG!)
-Caeser stone bench tops
-Large breakfast bar
-Soft closing doors!! (we got soft close toilets as well - seriously the best, no more slamming lids!!)

They're the main changes from our current hideous and impractical kitchen.

Good point made about more powerpoints! Will keep that in mind.

Rouge - movable powerpoints? That's brilliant! Is there somewhere I can see a pic, to show DH? I've tried googling it, but it keeps coming up with strip shows on Microsoft Powerpoint

We're currently in the process of building our house, and as such have a building blog!!

we have since changed the selection for the glass splashback to a black mirror glass called "stopsol grey" (and it is SEXY), and the appliances have been changed to Blanco equivalent of our prior selections as the previous selections had been discontinued and they had no other 900mm cooktops with a fish burner.

We have a walk-in pantry on the short end of the kitchen, and it is about 3.5*1.8m in size. My big thing during this design was ample storage!!
