Well its just hit me how close we are now! I'm picking up the birth pool tomorrow!! So exciting but a little daunting at the same time. Belly cast is booked in for Friday.
Am wondering.... Did you have a birth plan? Both home and hospital (transfer)?

I had a birth plan that was really only for hospital (none of my instructions would apply to my HB mws, who already knew my wishes and wouldn't do any of my 'no's anyway). I made sure a copy went on my hospital file and there was a copy at home to take if we needed to transfer. I love it when all that planning is totally unnecessary!
I've managed to fix it so able to be viewed on mobiles now. I watched it with DD she loved it.:

- Independent Wings
- Pregnancy Circle
The others on my list I've heard of and can get a lot of information on via BB, but these ones might be new or something. I emailed Mamatoto for their fee schedule and its very detailed, it even includes the probable Medicare rebate underneath the out-of-pocket fee. Of course, that wouldn't mean anything if they're not actually any good :lol:
Oh gawd, I am getting so far ahead of myself :redface: I just want everything to be perfect when #3 comes along...
Turtlejane is kicking along, 39 wks now. She got to 42 with DD1, so we may have a little while to wait for news.
Teni, you're best off meeting with the mws to see who you gel with, ITMS. Lots of HB groups meet up regularly and can probably give you feedback as well.
Funny - this will (hopefully) be my fourth home birth, 7th baby, and I have 5 girls. :) Congrats to your SIL, and to you with your new niece!:

Teni: seriously, when it comes to planning a HB, it is ALL SO MUCH FUN. go for it. do not hold back!!! Highly recommend the ladies that PZ and I used. they rock.
And seriously MASSIVE congratulations to Sara on the arrival of her newest little man Daley!!! Hope you are having the most glorious newborn snuggles with this very special little person, much love xx

DD3 is going great guns ATM. she is just beautiful and blossoming into herself...almost 3 months old. egad, time is flying.

By the way, I've started to notice that I have an "after-supper belly". :o Can't wait for an U/S to see how far along I am..... So thankful that I don't have any morning sickness yet! Every day without nausea is a blessing, let me tell you!

Gosh it's been longer than I thought since I posted in here, sorry! Thanks for keeping everyone updated Jen :) I'm so slack!
Yep I'll be 40 weeks on Monday :) DD was born at 42+1 so trying to keep my head in the space it may be another 2ish weeks but yeah I am very ready and over it! Lots of aches and pains (pelvis is pretty much shot) and sleep is difficult with so many toilet trips!
I went to a birth workshop yesterday that was run by Jane Hardwicke-Collins which was awesome :) crazy hot though as their portable aircon struggled :( first heat wave day where I haven't been hiding at home so I really struggled. So glad it's cooler this weekend!
I'll try and pop in here more often now and keep you updated with with news when it all happens! :)
I'm guessing this is normal, but kind of having a mini freak out. Worried that I might have twins (my dad is a fraternal twin) so can't hb. And worried about the cost of a hb. Now we have the money, but convincing dh to spend it when a hospital birth is free, is another thing.
I'm only 6wks along, so think I'll wait closer to 8 to have my dating scan. But I also spoke with a im yesterday, and made an appt to meet her on 2nd Feb.
I had so many dreams of having twins when i was pregnant with DS. One of the warmest, reassuring, most beautiful dreams ever was of giving birth to twins in my loungeroom (and this was when i was still *afraid* of birth).
Twins doesn't preclude you from a homebirth, but it's also something you don't have to stress about yet.
How exciting to be meeting up with a midwife!
WM, one of the mums in our HB group just gave birth to twins today, first bubba born in the water. She was in hospital with her IM (at least, that was the plan), but from her announcement it sounds like she got what she wanted for their birth.

Got an invitation to my mw's Blessingway next mth. So excited! I've never been to a real one (mine was a watered down version since I don't have enough hippie friends lol).

Only about 8 weeks to go for me! Starting to think about the birth kit and bits and pieces I will need.
So SO excited for the journey and meeting my beautiful baby. I have no fear or anxiety surrounding the birth. I'm so confident in myself and my baby!

41+2 here, still pregnant. Feeling huge, achy and over it! Have lost my zen mode :( my friend's son has his first bday party tomorrow so hopefully seeing my friends will help cheer me up!

I'm 35 weeks now, and will be looking to start prepping an area of my (very small) house in the next few weeks. Just need to pick out a pool hire package, then to knuckle down and make sure I have everything else I want/need to set the scene :)
I have my placenta encapsulation all teed up, and think I'm about to lock in a birth photographer too - as long as DH doesn't object. She's very well priced and studying to be a doula as well!
And sheesh, I am more grateful than ever that I have educated myself and chosen to have a homebirth with like-minded midwives! What difference in how I feel after meeting with an Ob at the back-up hospital, compared to my midwife!
All I needed from the Ob was for him to write down in my book that I have no risk factors to preclude me from having a homebirth. Well apparently I should be concerned that I may have another BIG 8 pound baby, and he *could* be posterior and so I would definitely need to transfer because posterior births are longer and more painful and I wouldn't be able to cope... After all that nonsense, he did manage to write down that I have no risk factors, and am cleared to birth at home. So for that I am happy, but geez I feel sorry for those women under his care, who trust in every word that comes out of his mouth :/ If I didn't know any better, I would have left that appointment worried about a very long and painful birth with a bigger than average baby, all prepped to accept a forceps/vacuum/epidural/early inducement/c-sect when the time came.
Luckily, my midwife and I had a laugh at his BIG 8-pounder comments, and her palpation of my belly indicates that for now, bubs is in a lovely head-down anterior position and I am measuring spot-on for dates :D we chatted about options for if/when I go 'post-dates' and I left feeling confident in myself and my baby!
Ree Ree I photographed a friends birth recently - HBAC and a 11lb4oz babe. Minor tear. The OB is laughable!!!
Turtlejane I hope you're feeling heaps better in yourself and back to looking forward to bringing your little one into the world. The last few weeks I'm always so over being pg- and the longest I've gone is 39wks 2ds! So I can definitely imagine that it'd be really easy to get deflated by the time I was 'overdue'... Bubby WILL arrive anytime now and you will do a wonderful work in bringing them into the world whenever and wherever that ends up being. Hang in there!
ReeRee have you checked gumtree for birth pool? I think I'm remembering right that you are near me and if that's so I was looking just out of curiosity the other day and there was a new/unused one cheaper than the hire one listed and a few new liners listed cheap too. Also what a twit that ob sounds to be! I'm with you that its actually REALLY sad to know there are drs (lots of them!) that say those things to women who for whatever reason take those words as the complete and only truth. Anyway off my soapbox now...
I feel a little funny staying in this thread now actually coz I'm leaning towards a hospital birth now this time. Honestly I'm not even totally sure why coz I'm not concerned about the pg or baby it just kind of feels like the right thing this time. I saw my ob on Fri to discuss results from previous two ultrasounds and get his opinion. He checked it out and did another ultrasound to see for himself and reckons all is fine baby girl is just one of the smaller babies, and there's no reason I can't have another hb if that's what I want. But he's also happy for me to see him for the rest of care if I want. I dunno I'm just not feeling passionate either way, when I talked to dh he surprised me by saying he thinks hospital this time (hes usually VERY hb). I guess I feel like I don't really belong anywhere here coz even if I go to hospital it'll be exactly the same as at home just ah not haha there's no way myself or dh would let ANY intervention occur unless it was a clear emergency. Gee I've rambled on a bit sorry.

Ree-Ree: OMG! look at your ticker!!! AMAZING! cannot believe how fast it has all gone (from my end lol). It is sooo amazing the difference in approaches isnt it? I am now so so grateful for the paths and decisions that led to me being able to birth my last two babies at home. nothing, absolutely nothing compares to it.
Aimz: eeep! so excited for you! If my birth pool wasnt currently in use, you could of used mine! I have a girl due in early Feb that has it right now...gosh, i am totally assuming you are melbourne based :rofl: ( have NO idea lol).
HSM: I hope that you find a birth path that brings you happiness and contentment sweets :hug: you will always be a HB mum, once is enough for always...so ALWAYS feel like you belong here, even if you do decide that for this birth journey you will feel more secure in hospital. I think many of us in the HB community are more for supporting CHOICES in childbirth rather than just HB and nothing else ITMS. time and place and confidence to trust in a woman's intuition.

I was wondering if I could jump into this thread? I have a seriously bad memory at the moment and can't remember if I joined in sometime ago? I'm having my first baby at home and am due 17 March.
I'm really excited and so is my sister, who is my birthing partner. My husband will be my birthing partner as well, but in case he is interstate for work for some reason and is delayed, she will be my rock!! My husband is really nervous about the whole thing and its kind of irritating me that he hasn't bothered to do any research, is just sitting back on his paranoia. I've given him research to read, he has met with the midwives but he hasn't bothered to read anything or open his mind.
Nevertheless, I am excited and can't wait to meet my little girl! I have hired the pool, to be picked up in three weeks time and this weekend am going to purchase the rest of the towels etc that I'll need. Then its just nesting and affirmations time!
I know what you mean ree ree about the OB, I had to visit one at my backup hospital and they told me there was a chance that my uterus would be incompetent and tried all sorts of scaremongering tactics!

Have you got a copy of 'the business of being born'?? This was a HUGE catalyst for change in my DHs mentality and fear surrounding having a baby at home...get him to watch it!
Well I've only got one bun in the oven. And have appt on Monday with an IM.
I had an irritable uterus with ds, along with severe reflux and spd. But that won't change anything as that's all leading up to labour. But I did find out at scan that I have an inverted uterus.
WM: how are you feeling with having one bun? I guess it keeps the plans for a HB all that more straightforward xx
Very happy cassius, was hard enough with just one the first time around. Let alone having a toddler and a baby. Now just to slowly work on convincing dh lol.

Plugging along over here.... Just had an u/s this morning, and it put me a little over 7 weeks - slightly behind where I thought, but not far off. Feeling pretty lousy these days. Ended up getting a prescription so that I can make it through and take care of the rest of the family for the next little while. Ugh.
Called the midwives, and my midwife who I had last time will be on vacation when I'm due, so I've got someone new. Haven't met her yet. Will see her at 10 weeks. Hope we click!
