I took about 40 mins to birth the placenta. It wasn't coming in the pool before it started to cool too much. I had no contractions at all after DD2 was born but getting up and going to the toilet made it just fall out. I'm sure it was just me holding it in until then. I then moved to the couch for a rest, baby's checks and mine. After a little while I popped upstairs to bed. My muscles were sore the next day but I still managed up and down the stairs, albeit slowly! Never actually occurred to me that that might be an issue.

Worth pointing out that my labour was quick and I didn't lose much blood. I was very much on a post birth high. Tired, but it was about 2am before we went to bed. Lucky I'd had a nice long nap in the afternoon.

Thanks ladies! I haveno idea how ill feel because my first I had tons of drugs and an epidural so I was shaky for ever after and i tore badly. My second was a cesarean so the recovery was obviously horrifying. I'm most excited for this homebirth so I can feel semi normal in a day or two!

Agh, don't talk about placentas, it's the part I'm looking forward to the least I hate that plopping squishy sensation, give me a nice firm baby head any day

I have to get the images from "Hello Baby" out of my head. I will NOT be labouring through a cold windy night, and I will NOT snuggle up in front of a warm fire afterwards! Not only am I due in the middle of summer, we don't even have a woodfire Most likely I'll sweat my way through labour, then chug cold water afterwards

Congratulations Cricket! Hope he lets you have a decent sleep xx

Arimeh, I have been totally unfit preceding every birth so I am not sure it makes a difference? However, my births weren't particularly hard work just period pain like contractions interrupting my bath snoozing and 0 and 10 minutes of pushing for the girls.

    Congratulations cricket!!!!!!

ahhh im reliving miss Zoes birth, kinda disappointed I will never get to do it again, also the fact DH and I are looking at buying a house very soon and we will have to leave where she was born. I love sitting in my lounge room and playing with her in the exact place she entered the world.

I think the placenta took about 30 min to come out and blood loss wasnt mentioned to me so I dont think I had a issue.

Ohhhhhh Congratulations Cricket! Love how quick that was!

As for the pool and placenta and after birth, with DD2, my midwives suggested I hop out of the pool. I think I'm a bleeder, my pool was like a blood bath a few minutes after DD2 was out and they wanted to monitor. After DD1 the OB came in and told me I needed a blood transfusion, which I refused (and lived, obviously). I would have liked to stay in, but I think I was bleeding a bit much (midwives got me drinking a raw placenta smoothie pretty quickly and into the arnica, which to me are signs that I was probably bleeding a bit much), but the cord was very short too. I feel pretty active after birth, but wiped out at the same time. I can never sleep in the day or two after having a baby, too in awe.

Congratulations Cricket! That was such a great surprise! I thought we'd see you in here for days complaining about prelabour. I also can't believe you had a baby last year and this year! Amazing!

PZ I am so wired after the birth. Can't sleep but so wiped out. It's a pretty cool feeling actually!

Congratulations Cricket!!! Welcome to the world little Caleb

I think the only sleep I got the day Amelia was born was while I had the epidural in, and when I was coming off it - though PZ probably has a better recollection of that I know I didn't sleep after Ianto was born, but my body wanted to. I just couldn't stand missing a second with him. This time, who knows how I'll feel? Probably like I can conquer the world - I'll want to go shopping or something I bet

Watching a TV birth/adoption show and the mother describes the birth. "I was induced at 7. At 10 they checked me to see how far I was dilating and I had stopped at 1cm. I just wasn't dilating anymore so the doctor said I needed to go in for a c-section". Seriously?? Does this logic even actually make sense to people or do they like just being able to hand over accountability like that?
