:wall: I was going to get started on clearing out all the DVDs from the lounge room (aka my birth space) today, but I can't find any empty boxes to put them in! I told DH I'd need him to help me find some, but do you think he listened? Nooooooooo, that'd require actual effort :angry:
Oh gawd... Just after typing ^that^, I've realised I know where some are... Not as annoyed at DH now, just myself :p Don't mind me, going crazy...

Dotface, I have been told that the most common day for a first time mum to go into spontaneous labour is 40+11. It is at the top of the bell curve apparently. I think it is helpful for your mind if your expectations are that you might go to 42 or 43 weeks. That way as you are waiting you feel more content. It helped me with my second, cos my first I went to 42+2. Good luck love. Lots of happy labour vibes headed your way.

A very quick 2hour labour spent mostly in the shower under water, and this time I simply breathed her out in two big controlled breaths. No tears, just a little graze, a pleasant change from my previous 2nd degree tears and stitches.

OMG only two months to go for me. :o Really not sorted for baby, but I don't have a hugely long list. Better start thinking about getting organised. Why, oh why, does Christmas need to be so close? :wall: Sorting out heaps at home, including getting our granny flat rented, so the baby has taken a big back seat. But then, she doesn't need very much. At least our pool is good now, so next hot day I am waddling my ever-increasing girth into the bliss of weightless water!
Hope everyone else is well. M/w appt on Thurs. Not that there's much to do. I probably should check that I can get a synto and Vit K prescription from her this time (think two of the group m/ws got their certification to prescribe recently, which will save me a trip to the GP).

I've only just started to get things organised (am 37+5), washed a few clothes so at least Bub can be warm lol. And trying to get the place in some kind of order, it's hard as we are in the middle of building and house will be ready about the same time I'm due, doubt we will be in house by then so things are kind of all over the place.
Just exhausted at the moment as kids have been sick so hopefully they are getting that out of the way before Bub arrives as DS has increased his breastfeeds and I spend all day saying no you've just had it! And DD is still BF also and doesnt look like she'll wean before Bubs here so looks like I'll be BF 3! Seems a bit overwhelming at the moment but hopefully it will all work out. And also hoping I don't go to 42 weeks like with DS, anytime from now would be good, but yeah somehow I doubt it!
Went to see midwife just now and she had last week requested my 8week scan info from the hospital I did the u/s at and she told me now my due date is actually today, not Friday the 1st of November like we thought all along! So thank God I'm not overdue yet lol.
Dot Face, even if it had been Nov 1, it's still all an estimate, not an exact due date! You're not overdue till you go over 42 weeks - how come your middie isn't telling you that? They don't realise how much careless use of terminology can create anxiety. EDD suddenly became Exact Due Date, instead of Estimated, and being 'due' meant giving birth on the day you were given on the chart :rolleyes: So, chill out - you'll meet your babe when your babe makes a move ;) x
I know but these three little days make a difference in that if (God forbid) I do get to 42 weeks it's given me three extra days before they will want to induce. Because it's a hospital based homebirth program the midwife has to adhere to the rules etc so I think she did me a favour by going after those dates from the 8wk scan! She is very much a "when baby is ready it will come" type of person but has to stick to hospital policies and they say over 40weeks is over cooking!
They can't force you to be induced just so you know, but they can say no to birthing at home with the program. You have every right to opt for extra monitoring instead of being induced if you wish.
Ahh, I forgot it was the hospy program - get whatever time you can swing!
Oh, I meant to ask the other day after PZ pointed something out to me... Are all three of my midwives (primary/secondary/backup) supposed to be at my birth plan meeting? At my last appointment, I met my backup midwife and she kept talking about it, and without thinking I made my next appointment with her. It didn't register until afterwards that I wasn't completely sure whether this is supposed to be the birth plan meeting (which I'd rather have with Kelly or Jan) or a regular appointment :redface: I suppose in the long run it won't matter - will it? -but wouldn't it be best to discuss these things with the two people that are meant to be there rather than the backup? I can't believe I didn't think about what I was doing, making that appointment...
I would want my primary midwife there to discuss the birth plans. Is that normally done at a set gestation, or was it the backup who suggested you discuss it next meeting?
neh, i made 2 physio appts and had to cancel both of them for different reasons. it's hard to remember everything you need to at the right time.
My midwives have the birth plan meeting at a set gestation, can't remember when, maybe 36 weeks? They prefer that everyone who will be attending the birth be there, so that everyone is on the same page. So I had my primary, secondary and their intern at the time. My doula was sick so she couldn't attend (I didn't end up calling her to the birth in the end anyway). It worked out well having all 3 there, because when I did go into labour, my secondary was on leave, so I knew at least that every one of my middies knew what was what.
I might call on Wednesday (going to assume the office will be closed tomorrow for Cup day) and see if they've got it in as a regular appointment or not. If it's supposed to be my birth plan meeting I'll see what I can do about changing it. I'll either cancel or reschedule it with Kelly at least - while I do like the backup (Kris), I want Kelly there to talk to about everything.
Next time I'm pregnant I will give everyone a fake EDD that's two weeks ahead of the real one. And if I don't, I will stab myself in the eye with a ball point pen. You are all witness to my oath.
I tell people roughly what time in a month so that no-one's hassling me! This time round it's late March/early April, for example ;)
And you don't tell anyone you're in labour, apart from the middies - just go offline until it's time to announce, and it's just that lovely time for you and your little fam :)
Dotface I generally tell people a guess month. Cos you jut never know when your baby will be born. My baby is due 5may next year, ironically on international midwives day. But I will tell people that I am due towards the end of May. I also tend to fade away from fb towards the end, and I cease to answer phone calls if I don't want to discuss "when I am gonna have the baby". I went to 42+2 with my first and was thoroughly over the well meaning but totally annoying people who asked me "have you had the baby yet". I used to answer, that it wasn't gonna be a state secret when we had the baby. The worst part was having dh on leave from 40 weeks and his mum came across from the uk when I was 37 weeks. Bless her she was lovely and meant to be helpful, but she had to go back after 8 weeks and I felt the weight of the tension of having her waiting for me. Now I don't let my hubby book leave till I am due to be 41 weeks. I figure by then I will be tired and can use the hand and he won't be watching the clock and getting impatient with me either.
Anyway, hugs lovely, cos I totally get where you are at right now. This baby will come when it is ready.
Yep, I'm just telling most people December. Really, it's true - I hit 37w ("early term") on the 28th of November, and 42w ("post-term") on the 2nd of January, so I'm technically due to have bub anytime in December ;)
my birth plan meetings have had everyone who will attend the birth there. we had ours at 36 weeks officially. but as i went into preterm labour at 34 weeks, we had long discussions between us all in person and over the phone for the JIC hossy transfer. thankfully though i had already had a birth with my birth team so we were all pretty much on the same page...just a refresher really :D

Thanks guys *hugs* I wish I'd thought of that earlier re: the whole giving people a rough idea of where I'm at rather than the edd. I know they're excited and mean well but OH MY GOD IT'S GRATING to no end...plus I am more excited than anyone, ya know being the one who has been through all the nausea, back aches, sleepless nights, heart burn, pelvic pain etc etc just to bring this bub earth side but you don't see me asking myself WHERE'S THE BABY, for crying out loud!
And yeah I was planning on telling a few people like SIL and a couple of close friends when I go into labour but stuff that, man! Only dh and whoever else will be at the birth will know. The pressure of being asked "where's the baby?" is hard enough dealing with now let alone when I'm trying to get through contractions etc. Hmph! Feels good to rant here among people who get it!
Oh yes DF! Can you imagine the phone calls that start to come to yours an DH's phones after labour has been going for 8+ hrs..... Then again at 12 hrs. I saw a good picture quote that said, "I'm sorry your struggling with waiting for me to have this baby..... How would you like me to help you feel better about that??" :roflmao: !!:
That's why you just fall off the planet at the end. Don't bother talking to people. Cos for all they are well meaning it drives you f&@king bonkers!! Lol!!
I wouldn't even have told my dad that I was being induced with DD, but he did sort of have to know why Mum would be missing for a while :lol: This time no-one will know I'm in labour except those who will be there. I'm not even letting you ladies know :p
Oh dotface I hear ya!!! I went 15 days past the dates I had told everyone the first time.The second time despite the past I accidently told the date again... grrr I went 11 days past... the third and fourth times I told them 3 weeks past my 'due' date and guess what?? I went a week earlier then 'due' date that I was keeping secret, it was a huge thrill not to have anyone hounding me they all though I had a month to go!!
Anyway, thinking of you, this last part is such an initiation into motherhood xx

Tenibear when I called my dad to tell him that we ha had our hbac baby, he said to my hubby "but I didn't even know that you had gone to the hospital". We replied that it was because we hadn't gone and we birthed at home. I hadn't told him even that much :) cos basically nobody but us needed to know. And it was a good thing to, cos he bloody well posted to fb that we had a baby girl before I got a chance to!! Lol. Not mad at him, he was excited, but exasperated! Next time I will be very specific not to post on fb when we tell him.
Oh yes, the amount of times I've fobbed people off or been very selective with my words when asked "what hospital are you going to?"... :shakehead: Only a very select few outside of my birth team know about my homebirthing plans. I wish I could shout it from the mountaintops, but I don't want to deal with the fear-mongering and incorrect assumptions. It was hard enough getting it across to one of my cousins why I hired a private midwife, never mind explaining that I'll be giving birth in my lounge room!
I love going quiet on FB! I still haven't acknowledged it on FB, like last time, and I also had a 3 (or 5? I can't remember!) day moratorium on mentioning the birth or posting any pics. I figured that the people who mattered knew and everyone else would find out when they needed to know. I went quite on FB at about the time of our move from the farm shed to this house - in large part because I already knew I was pg, but many people assume it's because of the move and the drama about that.
I read a good article recently about keeping children off FB and online in general, so I'll be even stricter with this one. The writer called it a 'digital trust' - bought up domain names in the baby's name and asked friends not to tag pictures or post any on FB if they had any. Food for thought.
People who ask where I'm going to have the baby get the truth, otherwise I don't say much - plus, my pelvis side-effects tend to take away the focus from the birth plans in conversation, so far. Same with scans - unless someone asks specifically, I don't find myself explaining to anyone that I'm not having any scans for this one.
I was out today and I don't have much of a belly for 20 weeks, and only a handful of people at the party know about the pregnancy. It's not a secret, so as we were talking about it from time to time the others around us looked really confused and we had to explain to them that I was pregnant, and not talking about some nasty disease or accident that had happened to me! As I said to one lady who was very glowing about my 'clever' small belly, it makes it difficult to get consideration for seating when you're not showing much more than what a full lunch-belly would show!
I am really enjoying keeping this one under the radar. I found that last time, given how late most people found out, they weren't expecting the birth to happen when it did, because the pregnancy didn't seem to last very long in comparison to when they find out about other people's at the 3 month mark. The point of that is that apart from furnishing them with a vague EDD, they forget to hassle me ;)
I've got my booking in appt at the ward in two weeks, and I really need to get my back up secondary middie confirmed etc. I've been really slack! What I'd like to do is have a birth plan meeting with all 3, but I'm not too fussed if that doesn't happen this time. I'm keeping costs down by having most ante natal checks with the GP, and soon the ward middies, so I will be able to afford a birth plan meeting with all 3. It might well be the only time I meet the secondary local middie.
I'd better start looking for a birth pool liner, and looking for my essential oils to make up herbal-soaked maternity pads to freeze!
I told everyone with DD2 that I thought I'd give birth a couple of days past my EDD, so no one expected anything beforehand. Turns out I was off by half an hour. ;) This time, i think I'll be at least 4-5 days past the closest EDD I could guess, so no one is expecting anything before 7 Jan. I wonder if I can get it right twice in a row? Kinda freaky that I was able to predict and from so early with DD2. Anyone else guess their date? I even told my m/w at my final scheduled appt that there was no way I'd be another week, even though there was no obvious sign anything was happening.
I don't think I ever had a birth plan meeting. I have a birth plan, I just gave a copy to everyone and put one on file. I spent so much time discussing things with both my m/ws that I don't think there should have been anything left to wonder about. This time, I'm using the same plan with a small update on the front about expecting a fast labour. In my case, it's really only for the hospital's benefit, as birthing at home everything was set the way I wanted it anyway and my m/w's never suggested any exams or procedures that would have needed me to make a decision. I just told my m/w that this time she's not to ask me to get out of the pool to go to the toilet. ;) If we'd realised I was already at the point of pushing, she wouldn't have bothered last time either!
M/w appt tomorrow, but nothing really to talk about.
Oh, and I'm still bfing DD2 and oh my, my boobs are HUGE! I don't remember them being this big until after birth with DD2. I'm venturing into my post-birth/engorged bbs bras already. :o Eeenee, hats off to you managing with two still bfing. I think DD2 is dropping her pre-nap bf (which she doesn't have when I'm at home) and the night time one is usually very brief, but as long as she sticks with the morning one, I think she'll be still going when DD3 is born. Probably close enough now for her to resume even if she does stop. What did everyone else find in terms of colostrum and toddler bfing?

I never really had a formal birth plan appointment either as my MW was pretty much on the same page when it comes to knowing what I did and didn't want, actually half the time I wondered how she knew what I wanted as she just seemed to know without me actually saying something.
Had a trip up to the hospital today for CTG as for the last 3 days Bub had been super quiet and it was keeping up at night just worrying about it so finally let my MW know and she suggested I got there and get checked out. Was quiet up there so was in and out and of course Bub moved like crazy the whole time I was there, more than it had the last 3 days put together!

I like to go over it all, and it will be doubly important this time round because none of the mw's are familiar with how I birth, unlike last time in Melbourne. Plus, I'm not having that many appts with my mw's, to keep costs down, so I think it would behoove me to get it all discussed in one meeting. The back up secondary mw will be coming from Melbourne and will charge travel costs, so I'm gonna make that appt count! Birthing 'choices' in the country are so crap, it's discriminatory. Now I can contrast the two experiences - metro and country. Metro HBers really do have it lucky, in comparison.
