TBH the rules is the major reason I didn't want to go with a publicly funded hospital home birth program. I was concerned my entire pregnancy last time that I would be transferred out of the birth centre and then after 2 hours of pushing I almost was (even though neither baby nor I were in distress). I've chosen IM care to avoid the 'rules' and let logic and sense prevail.
Yeah. I am slightly concerned by the 20% transfer rate. Birth centre's even worse at 50%. The midwife told me she was there recently doing a tour and they had stats up from the previous month - transfer rate of 80%!!!! WTF are they doing there?
Having to go to hospital for some stupid 'rule' is my greatest fear to be honest. There are only 3 IMs in Perth apparently, so I'm not sure how hard it is to book one. Perhaps I should look into it just in case.
I suppose you can just refuse to go to hospital, but of course then they'd have to leave you to freebirth. What craziness.
The perth program seems pretty good marcellus. My friend had her son through the program 3.5 years ago and it was a long labour (over 24 hours of established labour), with baby not engaging, baby's heartrate dropping with each contraction... many reasons for a hospital to have started intervention but she didn't transfer so I guess the midwives had a lot of freedom. Not sure how much that has changed now though?
Yeah. I will talk to them about all this when I actually get the chance! The midwives seem good, just concerned that their hands may be tied on certain things. The VBAC ban for instance is a relatively recent thing.
Hey ladies! Just a quick hi to everyone to let you know I posted Seth's birth story, if you want to have a read. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...-a-143504.html
We're doing really well here so far - resting, nursing, sleeping, visiting, healing, enjoying our babymoon for sure! DH has the week off of work.
How's everyone else doing? Rory - any new developments?
Cricket he is so cute!
Nothing new here - I am kinda relieved because I am not on the "running out of time" treadmill. I am 100% sure it was a leak (I think I mentioned I had that with my first) but that it has resealed. Now I am just back to enjoying having 3 weeks to go
