Hi everyone thought I'd join this thread. Now we know we have a healthy little bub growing.. I can start getting excited about my home birth! I'm seeing my midwife again on Monday after we get back from our holiday and I soo can't wait for the antenatal visits to be at my house lol.

Quick rundown for those that don't know much about me.. I've had obstetric care for both my pregnancies, for no other reason really than having a say in who my dr is at the end if the day (oh plus the private hospital is just sooo much nicer lol) I have a history of kicking my babies out early.. 37wks and 34wks.. With my 34 weeker being a monster baby at 3.5kg! My pregnancies tho have been healthy, no GD or blood pressure issues. So this time I'm hiring a private midwife and hoping to get to June 2011 to be able to birth at home.

I'm still booking in to the public hospital since there is a chance I could go early again. Because I'm on metformin to fall pg, I saw an ob there who then wanted me to continue with obstetric care because of the preterm risk. However, they didn't offer me anything much in the way of care.. all they planned to do was a couple of extra scans to check my cervix and if it was looking short they'd give me some steroids for bub. That was it!! So I'm not going obstetric anymore.. If they can't prevent my preterm labour then why would I see them? They can give me steroids on the day just like they did with kayla if need be. They said to stop metformin around week 14 so that's all I really needed to know from them hehe.

Plan is to see my private midwife, keep a close eye on myself staying hydrated and well. Keep an eye on any suspicious contractions and hopefully catch them in time to slow or stop them and just try and hold this one in til June

Anyway, I'll look forward to chatting and planning with you girls

Hello Ladies!

Well, i was feeling a bit down last week for a variety of reasons! Firstly i was spotting and cramping (which has all settled down for now, touch wood!) AND i emailed my midwife who told me she no longer works on the CMP so cannot be my midwife again!

She also told me that with all the trouble i had after having Archie (PPH, retained placenta, missed m/c, retained product, d&c, another big bleed) that it would be unlikely that i would be accepted into the program again anyway as i am higher risk of bleeding again. So, needless to say, i was feeling a bit lost and the thought of having my baby in a HOSPITAL terrifies me!

So today i picked myself up and dusted myself off and thought i'd better get onto it so phoned the CMP to get them to send out my application form. I had a good conversation with one of the midwives there who made me feel a bit better about the situation and told me that it is unlikely that the events following the d&c would affect my application as they were not a 'natural' occurence so it's really just the PPH and retained placenta that may be my issue.

I have absolutely EVERYTHING crossed that i can birth at home again but if i can't i am hoping they'll still allow me to go through the program but just birth in the hospital at the end. The midwife said to me today that this may be a possibility so fingers crossed.

Loving the vibe in here at the moment- lots of good HBing news

AE- lots of women who live remote move to have a HB near a major hospital. So they don't HB actually at their home but it's still a HB- I think yours is the same. Saying you are going to a birth centre doesn't really describe it compared to the birth centre I went to. And at least you can go their in early labour and avoid the crappy car ride as they're not going to have you on the clock like a hospital.

SM- SO glad you have your pool. Beautiful birth blessings for you!!

Marc- I know the feeling. This babewas born at 41 weeks and having had the first at 39+5 I hadn't expected to get that far. Baby will come earthside soon. Sending lots of beautiful birth blessings to you too

Liz- Welcome!! When I talked to my MWs about transfer I realised I'm so glad I planned a HB regardless of if I had had to transfer. The hospital and postnatal support you would receive by having an IM even with a prem baby is huge. My MW attended a hospital birth at 34 weeks the day after my baby's birth and helped them avoid a c/s and negotiate SCN. Had I had a c/s and baby was taken to SCN for example,my MWs would have split up, one with me in recovery and one with my H and baby at SCN, and SMSed back and forth to keep me informed. I like those extra touches. Have fun planning your birth!

Tegam- SOOO thrilled to hear the HB is back on! You've done a beautiful job growing that babe

Stoked- Everything crossed for you with CMP!

PZ- I hired a wooden pool through midwives naturally and I LOVED it. It had a heater in it that could maintain temperature (not heat the water up). One of my MWs suggested hiring one of those benchtop catering urns if you're short on hot water-plus boiling in pots etc. I've also read that you can use heaters from tropical fish tanks- not sure exactly how but could be worth looking into?
