it is a real shame about the no homebirth...but i'm with Meow, your birth centre sounds fantastic, and i LOVE that it is a separate establishment from the hossy...completely different vibe i'd say!
Sorry you're not getting a homebirth Arimeh, but the BC sounds good! Not too bad as compromises go
We're all set for the birth - once we've finished eating the icecream that is (need the container for the placenta).
Laura pretty much said they don't recommend suturing unless the tearing is quite extensive and/or bleeding lots, so I guess that sounds reasonable.
yay for no stitches! i swear i didnt even notice the tear this time around! no stinging or anything!
Marc: wow, i just looked at your sig!!!! you are definitely on the home stretch!!! :dance: oh my gosh it is all just so exciting!!! i wish i could relive Marta's birth all over again!!! i also wish that i had of remembered to film it. luckily my birth support midwife is also a professional photographer so she has taken some beautiful shots, but man i wish i had a video to remember it all....

Look away now Tegam, I have a good placenta/icecream container story... My aunty & cousins came to help look after my little boy (though they missed the birth and arrived afterwards). My 9 year old cousin apparently found the placenta because he said to my H "I wondered why you had an ice cream comtainer on the bench so I looked inside to see if the ice cream was melted but it was full of blood and guts!: :rofl:
I'm well thanks Tegam. Yesterday was yucky... had the teary, milky blues and cracked nipples. But Helen came & helped with attachment and today I feel better & feedingis improving heaps! Went to the chiro today and my hips & pelvis needed a lot of adjusting... funny that! :lol: Little baby barely needed adjusting though :D The resting is going great... not lying down ALL the time but going slow, no lifting etc and I'm feeling really well. I was shattered after my first so I'm really happy to be doing so much better now.
AE- so glad you're feeling good about the birth... and excited! I'm excited for you :D Would love you to keep sharing your journey with us.
Yes i was thinking about AE and her/you saying that you had to leave the thread. This is a homebirth thread but no where does it say you have to have or have had a homebirth! Its also where alot of us come to get our natural reality of birth and support others trying to make the decision where to birth their baby!
Oh meow: I was doing so well this morning and you did say look away but now i feel off! Time for dry toast! You would never guess im a nurse and i love to see a good placenta after a birth but right now....it all just seems too.....real!
Nice to get the teary day out of the way! Glad that you are all realined. You had a water birth? I have already forgotten? Found out there is a bath in one of the labour rooms at the hospital.....wondering if the thought of birthing at hospital can have the sting taken out of it by the thought of a water birth???
Has anyone every heard of anything going wrong with a water birth as in the baby taking in some water?? It just occured to me that DD2 cried before her body was out. The OB, MW, mum and i were so shocked???
Babies don't breathe till they hit air. So head out in a land birth is different to head out in a water birth. Only thing is in a water birth you have you make sure you don't bring them out of the water and dunk them again. My contractions were making me move upright at the end so one of my MWs put a hand on my bum to help me keep it underwater as my son's head was out, but not his body. If you do stand up with their head out, then you have to stay standing.
Oh thank you. I knew i had never heard of anything negative but thought i should ask the question. My babies all come straight out, there is no waiting for shoulders or anything so i dont think that would be a worry. DD6 and DD4 want to be at the birth and i also thought that a water birth would be less graphic for them??
Just trying to find a positive to a not so happy compromise im probably going to have to make!

And about placentas - I didn't see my placenta last time, and don't know if I want to take a look this time. I suppose I *should* simply because I won't get a chance to look at it ever again.....
Hey what does everyone think about your mind inhibiting labour from starting? I was thinking about previous pregnancies, and I know I was scared of going into labour when I was pregnant with DS because I had an elective c-section at 39 weeks booked, and I started losing my plug at 36 weeks, which freaked me out because I didn't want to go into labour!!!
Then with DD1, I wanted to have her naturally but was sooooo scared of going into labour then I think I held onto her till 42 weeks when she absolutely had to come out because she would have died otherwise - so maybe I knew that I wasn't ready for labour yet?
And with DD2, I only went into labour after admitting to DH that I was scared about going into labour and having a huge meltdown the night before...
So maybe this time I won't go overdue if my mind is without fear and my body knows what its doing? What do you think? Am I talkin "crazyyyy talk"?
DD2 came the morning after house guests and DH went off to work. It had been an insane few weeks and i remember saying to myslef as i went to bed after every one had left the house and it was just DD1 and i. Oh the peace and quiet, this is bliss, i survived those massive weeks, now i can have my baby. Oops just a few hours later after NO warning my waters broke! She was almost 4weeks early. Im sure it was just that relief that all was calm again!
Also: i know that i thought DS would come early and DH took from 37-39weeks off, there was huge pressure to produce a child within that time seeing he had missed the last birth. We were all $hitty and it was a horrid two weeks BUT baby didnt budge until 10hrs after i had a huge meltdown and told DH he was just going to miss the birth. It was wednesady night and he was due to go away on friday. We both cried and cried and hugged and made up.....then DS was born the next morning when all the pressure was off!
So yes i guess that i totally believe. I have also read stories of WW2 women in london that were in labour and then a bomb would hit and they would stop their labour until later when it was safer!!!

totally believe that fear/stress/tension can hold it off. i was all set to go with Marta; she was engaged, colostrum leaks, the works...then mum arrived and brought hr bad mood with her...and BAM, baby moved up and most distressing was the colostrum disappeared! then we had a huge fight, followed by a good D&M, i stood up from he couch and doubled over as marta engaged! 5 hours later i had my first wave...
Yeah, I think it's a mammal thing.
I've been wondering the same, though. Last time I didn't really face up to it, but deep down I was really uncomfortable and anxious about the doctor and being in the hospital. DH was too (probably even more so than me) but we never talked about it. So perhaps that was why even at 42 weeks we still weren't ready to go... But maybe not and I"m just being overly optimistic in hoping I might not still be pregnant come christmas

I'm in two minds about fear and labour. I do believe it can stall labour, but I don't think every woman who gestates to 42 weeks was fearful and holding the baby in. Some women jsut naturally gestate for that length of time.
Just had a thought AE- your MW for HB was going to be the one you'll have at thebirth centre right? She was happy to do HBbut couldn't get a secondary MW? Perhaps will she do home visits for ante and post-natal care? That's a huge perk of HB so if you could just have that it would be something.
On my day 4 milky blues day I called my MW for an appointment and she came out, helped me with feeding, gave me cuddles and tucked me into bed before leaving. Love her! :heartbeat:
that is very cool Meow. ahhh yet another benefit of HB! midwives that care and can take the time to really look after us :loveshower: LOVE IT!

I agree too about the length of gestation. I have short pregnancies BUT i have short cycles!

But yes, I get my appointments before and after the birth at my house if I want them to be - just not the actual birth. I can't wait till my appointment with her - 5 days and counting!!!
Yeah, maybe... but can't I have a shorter one this time? 6th sounds bloody awesome to me. I've been trying to prepare myself for 42+ weeks all thsi time, but I'm only 38.5 and that's eons away :(

Mel, I don't know if i have told you about my labour (or if you have read my birth story!) but i truly believe that my mind was stopping me from going into labour. Brittney was going to be at the birth... we had spoken about it, she was excited but a little fearful about seeing me in pain. I asked her over and over if she wanted to be there and she always replied yes. I was having pre labour for weeks before i had Archie. I am talking full contractons that would start and continue for hours then stop. After about the 10th time of this happening, (after i had been having contractions 10mins apart for about 1.5 hours then Brittney - who was in bed - called out to me and they suddenly stopped) i sat down and spoke to my midwife about it. She suggested that maybe I was fearful of having Brittney there and that maybe i should give her permission to not be here if she so wished. Brittney is a sweet little thing, she thought i would be disappointed if she said she didn't want to be there, so imagine her relief when i told her that she didn't HAVE to be and that i didn't NEED her to be! She decided that she'd prefer not to be there and all was well! I totally relaxed after that and went into labour 2 days later! I really do think i was holding back all that time.
My midwife was also telliung me about another lady who was in full blown labour (8cm's dialated) when her two year old woke up and was crying and calling out for his mummy. Her labour completely stopped. She had the baby a few days later.
Very clever, our bodies.
