Anyone in Melb interested in going to the Maternity Coalition showing of "It's my body, my baby, my choice" next tuesday?
:
It's My Body, My Baby, My Birth is an education childbirth film that tells the story of seven mothers and their emotional journeys to natural childbirth. The story is enhanced with footage of partners and the roles of Licensed Midwife Maria Iorillo, Certified Nurse Midwife Yeshi Neumann, childbirth educator Jane Austin and Laura Norrell, Obstetrician.
Through story telling and photos, we hear the mothers' stories. Elain had a cesarean section for her first birth; Earth wants to be at home for community and comfort. Ann switches to a birthing centre in the last month of her pregnancy. Maya has a water birth. Partners express their fears and concerns, ultimately transforming as well. These are just a few of the stories that you will hear in this powerful and compelling film.
Natural Childbirth--empowering, amazing, beautiful. Come see for yourself!

Id love too but a rather long commute!
Come on hotI you know you want to join the dark side! hehe...Great that you had a nice appointment!
Is it wrong of me to want another baby to get to have another homebirth
Ooh, I'd love to come! Dh is on holidays so getting a baby sitter would be no problem.

I would love to go, that sounds great! But commuting from QLD is a bit of a stretch :)
Hot1 - nice to hear you enjoyed your MW visit. I hope whatever you do, that you do what is right for you. Women can birth anywhere, you just need to go where you feel safest.
AFM- well I have a local MW coming over on Wed to have a chat. Looking forward to it. DH will be around the house so he can meet her but probably most of it will just be me and her. That being said I won't be teling her what I need, I will be asking what she can provide. I don't want to just be told what she thinks I want to hear. I really want to understand her birth philosophy and see if ours are compatible. Wish me luck!

GL for Wed Bella! I have my second visit next week and I'm looking forward to it, now the decision has been made.
I've been readings heaps of books and I'm now in the frame of mind that I will only be paying close attention to the positive messages there are to read and watch. No more risk-related stuff, although it has been useful to know, so I can focus on bringing this baby into the world in the best possible way.
i would love to go too! and considering that it is a 2 minute walk from my house, shouldnt be an issue
jennifer: this is what i did too. after i had all the logistics organised, i just delved right into surrounding myself with positive energy and focus. it did mean that at times i had to curb my contact with some people (those that were not giving off good energy ITMS), but it worked and is worth it :)
HotI: oh and i forgot to add....you must plan a HB! you will not regret it :)
hahahahahahaha, i know right?! lol. ahhhh i am a shocker mrs crocker....just love the thought of HB and the support that comes with it IYKWIM. i was reading the chapter from Danni Minogue's book (go Nic and helen!!!) at the airport and it just made my heart swell to hear how they were able to support her and love her during what ended up being a really tough birth journey. it helped her get a good emotional outcome despite what must of been a really harrowing experience.
Hi everyone. Is it o.k if I post in here?
A quick intro - DS was induced (due to GD), epidural, gas, not a very nice experience.
DD was spontaneous labour, birthed in the bath at the local birth centre a couple of blocks from my house. Went there at 5am, born at 7am, home at 10am. It was a great birth, the only downer was that DH had to stay at home to look after DS.
So this time we are thinking of skipping the child care issue (no family around) and just doing the birth at home.
My only requirement was a birth pool since we only have a shub and not a full bath and I found the water amazing pain relief for DD. But I just had a midwife appointment and she has organised a birth pool for me so it looks like a home birth is a good possibility now :)

Midwife invited and accepted.
Hoti I'm so freaking excited!!!! Yay!!! It's going to be awesome :D Who is your MW?
I was booked into the birth centre first too and it's such a great feeling to make that final decision to stay home! :loveshower:
Wonderful news Artechim! Home births rock! Having my son stay with us was a big factor for a HB for me too- we also don't have family around and he doesn't go to other people well so I didn't want to leave him and distress him.
We had our chat with a midwife yesterday. She seems really lovely and our values around birth seem really similar. We have yet to ask her but I probably will do so at some point today. YAy for us!
Congrats to you Hot1! Sounds like you are really happy with your decision. Also Artechim, welcome to the thread and I hope you have a great birth too :)
Gaye D, she is the guest speaker at the movie next week in Northcote.
