What do you need the GP for? Are you trying to form a collaborative agreement between them and your midwife?

Haha, good point. Yes I was, because I heard he is very supportive, would be great to claim it through medicare. I figured if he was supportive it wouldn't be a problem was a bit surprised they said no. Also being in the country I wanted to make sure I had a decent back-up plan when its hard enough trying to find one midwife close by, let alone two! She'll have a bit of a drive to get to me.

I'm thankful again that I live in a country where care by midwives and homebirth are, perhaps not fully accepted, but fully funded and procedures are in place for registering with a hospital when planning a homebirth, and my midwives having working relationships with different ob's in case a consultation or transfer is necessary. It's not a perfect system by any stretch, but it sure has it's good points!
And really, when it comes down to the bottom line, it saves the Canadian health care system money to have women use a midwife and give birth at home! Just as safe, and way cheaper. That's an angle that might get some attention from policy makers. Australia uses both public and private health care, right? So some of it is tax funded? They might be interested to hear that then.

Just got ro see the first edit of my birth video today. It was amazing!! We all cried and laughed And cried some more. The funniest thing in the whole video was either me warning my husband that he should move his fingers because I wanted to bite them or when the baby was crowning I believe I said " omg! that stings like a mother f**ker!". Not my most composed moment ever lol! Anyway once we have watched it a bit more and agreed on the final edit I will post here so you girls can have a look.

How exciting, Bella!! I'm going to look at mine in the next day or so because my sister is coming to stay and she's keen to see it. (She's about 25 wks pg with #1). I'm excited about seeing it too.

Lol at your exclamation, Bella. I really felt stinging at the front and didn't like that at all! I'm not surprised you swore! Only part of my birth where I asked for help.

Oooh, I can't wait to see it Bella! How exciting.
During my second birth, I remember saying 'it's killing' as DS's head was crowning. I could have easily sworn though!

HotI, how are you? How is your precious boy? I agree with the comment about shouting from the rooftops the fact that you homebirthed a 'bigger' baby.

I am well. Couldn't have my MW appt. yesterday due to minor flooding - MW couldn't get to my place. Glad I wasn't in labour! Although the back up MW would have been able to get here, so it would have been ok. We rescheduled our appt. for next week. Back-up MW will come to see me tomorrow. My last lot of pathology came back- ferritin levels have quadrupled, so I am happy about that. I didn't have the Strep B swab.
    I hope everyone is well.

This is going to sound mooshy, but because Hot1, Bella and I all shared our pgs and then HBed within a couple of weeks of each other, I drew a huge amount of strength from knowing both of you were 'there'. I feel incredibly lucky to have had such great HB sisters!

I was inspired by those who'd gone before and comforted by you two. Thanks for being there! Mwah.

    I'll post some photos today.
