It tied music for my first labour and hated it so didn't try again. But a GF of mine had REALLY loud music at her birth and we all had to sing along. It was so empowering

I've thought about using music, but am afraid that the pieces I chose would either end up being distracting, or that I'd forever flashback to labour pain when I heard them again! Same thing for using essential oils or candles - if I smell that scent again, I'd be afraid that it would always take me back to labour.
Anyone have any experiences to share?

About the birth pool in winter - won't the water be warm enough, regardless of the temp outside? And, can you make the room a little warmer with a space heater, or something? I know the building codes are a little different in Aus compared with Canada, but wouldn't you want the room to be warm for a birth anyways? Or am I totally missing the point?
