Hey everyone. 36 wks along with planned homebirth babe here, my 3rd child. Feeling relaxed & really looking forward to the birth, especially now after the Birthing from Within weekend intensive workshop I just attended. It totally refreshed & inspired me! If anyone can attend one, I highly recommend it, or at least read the book and try the exercises. I have an awesome Midwife who is about to start weekly visits woooo and dropping off the pool soon so we can get it ready to roll! Blessingway in 2 weeks that I'm really looking forward to as well... Most practical stuff is sorted, like birth supplies, baby clothes and cloth naps washed & sorted etc so I'm pretty much kicking back for this last leg! Hope you're all doing well.

Hi chocorama! Sounds like you're both practically and mentally prepared for your birth - what a great place to be in! We're your other children born at home? Will they be at this birth?

Woohoo, we have another May HBing Mumma! I love how busy 2012 has become for HBs.

Thanks for the warm welcome. It's great to have a couple of other members due around the same time! My other two children were born vaginally & drug free, but at birth centres as we had no independent midwives in our area at the time. DS was a planned water birth but ended up on land, DD was a water birth. I was home the same day I birthed both times, so hoping for a simple straightforward birth again this time. Yep both kids will be present with my sister as their support person, all going well! They're excited & we've been watching lots of homebirth vids on YouTube in preparation. I'm making labourade to freeze in advance today & filling my freezer with witch hazel pads. Anyone else making labourade?

Well DP said last night if it wasn't for the fact he'd like a gap again and that will put him over 40, then he'd have another baby. He asked me if I'd have another when I was 38 and I said I absolutely would! Fertility is different for every woman and I was keen to have DD2 before 35 in case DD1's conception was a fluke. Since we fell pg literally first (and only) try with DD2 I'm fairly confident of a healthy baby at 38. So he's making the right noises and we'll just have to see where we are at in a few years.

So exciting that May is just around the corner! My sister is having her first baby in May too, so I'm counting down with the May mummas. Do you all have anything left to prepare?

Yay Jennifer!! I have no qualms having a baby up to (and even a few years over really) 40. My mum had her 3rd baby (and first home birth) at 40. Two of her sisters had their first babies over 35, one had her children at 38 & 41. I don't see it as a big deal. I'm aware that over 40 usually gets treated as "high risk" but I've even seen some places calling over 35 "high risk"! Sheesh! I'm 36 now and would most likely have my next baby at 38 or 39.

I haven't got my supply list from my midwife yet, but I think I've got the basics under control. Baby clothes are washed and ready to go, cradle is set up, infant car seat is ready, lots of baking and meals in the freezer.... Hmmmm.... I think I need to get some sea salt for the herbal bath and a container for the placenta yet. (Guess I'll have to go get some ice cream. )
Feeling a little PMS-ish today, and noticing more BH contractions. Starting the slow wind-up, I guess! DS and DD4 were both two weeks early, so I guess I could be having this baby in 2 1/2 weeks, potentially!

I agree, 40+ is fine for me in terms of having babies, and part of me wonders what life would have been like had I waited til then and gotten some more traveling and a career out of the way first. Having said that, there are benefits of being a younger parent too. There are plus sides and draw backs whichever way I look at it, it's so subjective though.

Cricket I wonder if your bub will follow the trend of his/her siblings and come a little earlier than the EDD. My trend is 42+ weeks so I'm not particularly crossing my fingers for a repeat however what will be will be! I try not to wish away the pregnancy even towards the end when I'm cranky, uncomfy & anxious to meet my little bundle.... I'm blessed to have the experience at all when many are unable.

If anyone's still cooking up a storm for the freezer of for friends blessingways this website has some awesome freezer-friendly recipe ideas:

I wish I was closer to my sister so I could do some meals for her when she gives birth next month. Might do an order online and get it delivered to her.

Ah the list. Lol I didn't end up needing a lot of what I gathered, but hey, it was there. And now we have enough plastic drop sheets for whatever we could possibly need them for!

How exciting that we're so close to our next batch of HB bubbas!

haha, ahhh yes, well, whenever you are going to do all that housepainting you will be thankful for the HB planning Jennifer

thankfully we also still have a fair bit of stuff left over. although the rubber gloves i gave to our IM after DD2 was born. so will need to buy another one of those massive boxes...surely they have small packets??

Just had my pre-admit appointment at the hospital today. (Not sure how they work it in Aus, but here, you book in with the local hospital so they have your info, just in case.) They were really great there - thanked me for coming in, even though I didn't "need" to, and hoped they didn't "waste my time", and gave me a tour of the totally renovated birthing wing at the hospital, which I was curious to see, along with best wishes for a great homebirth!
Also interesting was the magazine in the waiting room - Today's Parent, pregnancy issue. In it was an article for husbands/partners about being a support person. They interviewed three guys - one had 2 kids born at hospital, one had 4 kids, 3 born at home, and one just had his first child at home. I thought that was a great, low-key way to bring home birth into the public eye, without making it a "home vs. hospital" debate. Obviously, there's a time and a place for an article like that, debating the pros and cons of birth locations, but this is much more non-confrontational - just more like, hey, here are some people who had their baby at home, on purpose, and liked it, and lived to tell about it.

Bought some material to make a sling for a friend of mine who just had her 4th last week (fussy baby), and looking forward to using the other half of the material for a new sling for this bean. Also crocheted a lovely, soft, warm little hat for this baby last night.... Feeling more and more crampy - kind of exciting, even though I know we have some weeks to go.

Hope all is well with everyone else, especially the other May mums!
