I naturally did all the things in the pool that prevent tearing. DD2 was kind and her head came out in three pushes, not one. The only burning/stinging sensation I had was at the very front of my labia, because I was leaning forward, almost on all fours, but using the side of the pool. And I panted in between pushes naturally too.
I didn't try any massaging or oils as I thought position, etc, was the most likely to work, but if you've torn before, I can see why you'd try!
