I am so excited to announce that I have just had the realisation that I want a homebirth!
I used to think that having a homebirth was great for others, but not for me... Until recently, when a friend of mine and then my sis-in-law were both subjected to cesareans. And visiting in a public hospital was awful, I couldn't imagine staying in one...
And then it dawned on me - the only way to avoid interventions, to labour peacefully in a familiar environment, to be surrounded by love and support and recover in comfort - is to have a Homebirth!
Of course I knew these things already, but now I really *know* them. And a homebirth CAN be for ME! And DH has already supported me in this decision
Homebirth Rocks!
As Stoked said, you won't regret it.
And I agree with MadB, the support and care of an IM is beyond measure- it is comforting to know that she(or he) will be there with you no matter where you end up birthing.
I had a wonderful homebirth after a hospital birth first and it was, hands down, the best thing!!
I loved preparing for it too and even now, it fills me with joy to remember sitting on my couch within an hour of my DD being born, breastfeeding and watching my midwives, Dh and birth support friend eating dinner together. So normal, so right.
Congrats on your wonderful ah-ha moment and may the joy you feel now continue on your TTC journey and beyond!
FABULOUS! Congratulations, it's a good feeling. Although we didn't achieve our HB, (we transferred due to mec stained waters...turned out to be nothing and DD was fine ), the care I received with HB midwives was first class. And the care after was even better, home visits for two weeks Looking forward to your BFP!!
Thank you so much ladies!
I feel so energized and whole now that I know this is what I want. Actually half the reason I want a homebirth is for the midwives and the after-care (of which I had zero of last time - nada, zilch, nothing at all!)
And yes Maya, I have saved a lot of effort on the DH front - he really surprised me by just saying "Okay. I know you do A LOT of research, you spend hours on that BellyBelly site, and I completely trust your decision".
Yay! And what a wonderfully supportive husband you have- that's half the trouble for some women!
I will be joining you in the journey for a homebirth - with bub #3 due Jan 2012. Empowering birth experience here we come!!
Thank you Jellybean, Eutra and MissB! I'm going to need all the luck for TTC I can muster!
Oh MissB it would be lovely to be your belly buddy again
Best of luck with your own HB journeys Eutra_phalia and Jellybean I look forward to hearing about them!
