    implanon has gone missing!

grrr!! well my implanon has gone missing! cant feel it under skin, GP 'thinks' she can feel it but it 'has gone in deeper than intended'! great! so now i have to go and have an ultra-sound. she said once it is confirmed that its in tehre it will be working fine she will just have to 'dig around to find it when its time for removal' YAY someting to look forward to.!!

has this happened to anyone else? i dont know whether i should be worried about complications or not.

It was one of my biggest worries whilst I had mine in... mine did not go missing but the second one was a PITA to get out... not sure if it was the doctor's skills in removing it but (TMI alert!!!) there was a bit of my flesh attached to it when it was removed (sorry TMI I know!)

One of the ladies I know who used it had her one go MIA - it was found under US and was effective and then other woman I know had hers go MIA, was located under US but her and her doctor felt it was best to replace it rather than 'trust' that one IYKWIM... I suppose in some cases it still will be effective depending on where it is - and you need to decide if you want to leave it there until its original removal time (how long have you got to go with it??)

Haha, that happened to me when mine came out - bit of flesh on the end. Didn't hurt at all because of the local anaesthetic, but I could feel it. I went into mild shock coz the doc kept trying to take it out and losing grip on it - in the end he just held on tight and yanked!

Hollo, It didn't hurt whilst it was removed but it hurt much more than the first one I had removed (both were in for the 3 year duration). I had kept a journal for the first one's removal and again for the second - it hurt a lot more the second time but as I said I am not sure how much was the doctor's removal skill (removals done by different doctors) and how much can be attributed to the flesh. When is your US?

Sunflowa_girlie, I also went into mild shock - silly me took a look over at it at one point because I wanted to know why it was taking so darn long... saw all the bloodied gauze and headed into mild shock territory - that and I could feel the yanking on my arm to get it out.

i can only get in for ultra sound in 2 weeks! its a bugger too caue i have two kids and no one to look after them while i go into get it done. have to get DH to finish work early which isnt somethig he wants to do because of the way the economy is at the moment (got to be on best behaviour etc) plus his job isnt one where he can just come and go easily. its such a pain.

(i am not looking forward to it coming out especially if it is in too deep and hard to find)

Holy Heck! You only got it 3 days ago and its missing already?!?!?!

I think I just turned off implanon for life.

Hope it doesnt cause any more of an issue than it already has.

yep happened to me - another reason to get rid of it!!

they move about - i had a local to remove it and it took almost 45 to dig and find it!

i hated the implanon with a passion!

It sounds weird but if they are going to move they are much more likely to move when they are brand new because it hasn't setlled into its new home if that makes sense (ie the muscle usually keeps it in place or with mine over time grew attached to it) - some move over time as well but most of the MIA stories I have heard have been within the first 4 weeks on them being inserted - I was on tenter hooks for the first 6 weeks with both of my insertions - constantly checking it was still there... and then each week or so I would make sure it was still there for the entire 3 year period.

Hollo, is there anyway possible you could go in earlier - another US place, someone to mind the kids other than DH (I know how hard it is with the economy ATM). If it has gone missing I think it would be an idea to find out where it is now rather than later (ie give it as less time as possible to travel - if that makes sense)

That's rough that it is the only place that bulk bills!

I really hope that it is easy to locate! Have you thought about whether you will have this one removed or will it depend on where it is?

i actually did ring around and i found another bulk biller, made an appointment but its only 4 days earlier than the previous one. i dont know waht to do?! i kind of want it out now! just cause it is obviously in the wrong place. if it had gone in the right spot and stayed there it would have been awesome but this is just a hassle and a worry! what would you recommend?

I suppose the only other way to get it earlier would be to pay the $$ and then claim back from Medicare... that sucks that there are only 2 places near you that bulk bill... can the doctor that put it in refer you somewhere as an urgent US??
