Well, when my DD3 was overdue my midwife told me I should try some of the old wives tale things such as a hot curry, castor oil & sex. I refused to try the castor oil because I tried it with DS1 and it is disgusting. I tried everything else and nothing worked. I ended up using acupressure and clary sage oil. It might have worked, but she was 4 days overdue and was most likely on her way out anyway

All the best for the remainder of your pregnancy.

I think the difference is that curries can speed up digestion, but not usually cause full on diarrhoea, and hopefully enable contractions. Whereas castol oil has a much stronger effect on the bowel and can lead to diarrhoea which will potentially cause the mother to become dehydrated when she is trying to labour.
