Hi ladies, I'm going in at 9pm tonight for my first lot of gel.
i know this has prob been asked before and i am kinda nervous as i know an induction labour is more painful contractions.
Has anyone had an induction and managed a drug free/pain relief free labour?
Also how long was it from insertion of gel to baby being born??
Hi Hun. I don't have a lot to post of time but I wanted up let you know that I've had 2 wonderful inductions without even needing gas. Both about 2.5 hours. Good luck babe, you'll do great.
Awww how exciting! i just managed to miss out on induction - Miss B arrived on the day i was due to be induced - but i just wanted to wish you the best!!!!
I had 2 lots of gel (6 hours apart) and after the 2nd lot of Gel I got irregular contractions. The girl in the room next to me had the gel and few hours later was in strong labour, everyone is different. Unfortunately for me it was a cascade of intervention, the drip was inserted after 12 hours of irratic labour, I managed the next 12 hours drug free with hypnobirthing, however when internal was done I was only 3cm and had an Epidural as I was exausted from being in labour for 24hours, 10 hours after that was in transition however I was unable to birth Julia as she got stuck in my pelvis so emergency c/s was done. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.
At my last ob appointment last monday i was told i would need a few lots of gel as my cervix was still high closed and hard, i did have a show on wednesday and not much else since. SO i am worried i will be needing 2 lots of gel (mine are given at 9pm and then again at 6 or 7 am) and membrane rupture!
If you've had a show since last Monday there's every chance your cervix has started to ripen
Which means it might take a little less to get things moving.
Good luck for tonight!
Having some show is probably a good sign - hope it goes well for you.
My cervix was almost completely effaced but high and firm when we started out. I ddin't have gel, but a foley catheter and tape (which does something similar to the cervidil, can't remember exactly what it is).
Anyhoo, come morning I was a bit riper, but still not looking good. OB reckoned there was a high chance of c/s.
I elected to wait before starting the syntocin drip and just had AROM first. That was tough with a high, firm cervix, let me tell you.
3.5 hours later I was getting tired (no sleep prevous night of course) and decided it was time to try sytno.
5 hours after that my son was born.
I did end up using the gas toward the end, but more to help me focus than for pain relief (did nothing for the pain).
The contractions after AROM as opposed to the ones after synto were very very different (ie, synto was a lot more painful and extremely intense). But I don't know what a natural labour is like, so can't compare it to that. If you can delay the synto that would be good - gives you a bit of a better chance for a slower build up I think and less risk of foetal distress.
All the best~~ Will be looking out for your birth announcement
Marcellus has given some great advice. I have had two inductions and one naturally started labour that needed to be augmented with syncotin. Having had a bit of a taste of natural labour i totally agree to make them TAKE IT SLOWLY. Try gel and then maybe let them rupture your membranes but if you are having good strong contractions try to bide your time before agreeing to be hooked up to syncotin because the contractions do get so very strong. I always lost the plot a bit after the drip went in... that tied down feeling is the worst. Also make sure if they are suggesting syncotin to start you off on a very small dose... ask for the minimum and let them raise it IF needs be.
I went on to use a bit of gas for distraction (does nothing for pain) and also have had the minimum dose of pethidine. With the peth apparently (this is what one of my Obs said) there is an optimal time to give it... at a certain point in a contraction... which stops it getting through as much to the baby. A baby under the effect of peth can be very sleepy as you probably know... but because I had the minimum mine were all born alert and ready to have a BF within minutes of delivery. Also, because I asked for minimum syncotin maybe it was one of the reasons i never tore during delivery.
Just take it slow... don't let them rush you. Good luck
ETA: if all your contractions start to run together into one long contraction and you are on syncotin ask them to turn it down. This will put baby under stress.... and it horrible to endure... happened during my first labour.
You've had some fantastic advice given to you already.
My first was an induction and all I can say is do it gradually.
I had the drip inserted 1hr after AROM - I wish I had have told them to wait longer.
Once the drip was in, there was contraction after contraction without a massive break in between and the midwife refused to remove the drip. I wish I had have kicked off because I've read that sometimes all your body needs is to just have a bit of Synto and it starts to do the rest itself.
Also if you can, get wireless monitoring because the key is to feel as though you can move into whatever position your body feels like it needs to. I think one of the big reasons induction can be more painful than need be is the restricted movement that comes with continuous fetal monitoring.
Good luck sweetheart - I wish you the best and can't wait to read your birth story.
