    vent about GP

I went to my GP today for myself, nothing to do with 10m.o. DD and she looked at her and said she looks small and she wanted to weigh, measure her length e.t.c. She looked at the percentiles and said she cant fall below a certain amount . . etc. My DD is falling a little bit but not drastically, she looks healthy and has a bit of "chub". I had also told her I breastfeed on demand which usually ends up being 6 or 7 times as she is still feeding a fair bit overnight. She seemed to think that this was too many feeds. She said I need to back off the breastfeeds and push more solids. My DD already eats as much as I can get into her 3 meals plus snacks. I wish the medical professionals were more supportive of breastfeeding. Its also hard to not take it a bit personally. I really shouldn't have let it get to me but I just felt like a bit of an idiot. These things always catch me off guard. Thanks for listening to my rant.

My (fantastic) GP told me this as well as my DD wasn't putting on weight.. I just said I don't think my BF is causing any issues.. I will increase her full cream milk but seeing as she doesn't like it I won't push to much..

I did everything the same.. Offered food quite regularly throughout the day and she has finally gained some weight.. small amount but firat gain in 9 months..

If she is happy and you are happy, i dont see what the problem is? I think sometimes doctors just go by "textbook", not what the mother or baby want or need. You know your baby better then anybody. I say if it is working for both of you then keep it up. My DD is on the smaller side, totally different from my DS, but we are all happy and healthy.

    Ugh.
It's so frustrating when someone who rarely sees your child makes half baked statements like that.
Growth charts are meant to be looked at as a trend over time - not one off percentile readings like that. Honestly you'd think that GP's would know a bit about the growth of breastfed babies but alot of the time they have no idea.

Glad to see she didn't undermine your confidence though. Keep up the good work

    what an idiot.

my sister was so small when she was 3 i was 9 or 10 months and bigger than her. and now as addulte we are about the same (she is just a bit thinner)

i'm sure your DD is healthy so unless she gets sick alot don't worry at all.

I had a similar issue with my DD (although she was FF until 12mths). Actually it was the MCHN who said that as long as everything is in proportion ie: head circum, length & weight then dd is fine. The only issue she did mention is that say dd was in the 70th % and then dropped dramatically to the 25th% - this would be a little cause for concern but would suggest a referal to a pead not just trying to shovel more food in..... Sounds like your dd is offered variety and sufficient meals -
GP is just that a GP.
