    Smile What foods to avoid

    Im breastfeeding my lil man who is 2 weeks and i was just wandering if there were any foods i should avoid.......

    i have heard not to eat cabbage as it could gives bubs bad wind .... is this true?
    so i was thinking what other foods should i avoid if any one can help me out that would be great

    Hi, SMCGT,

    congratulations on your new darling! The good news is that, while old wives' tales abound about what you can and can't eat whildt breastfeeding, in fact, you can eat anything you wish, pretty much. Eat a normal diet. There's no evidence that cabbage causes wind.
    Perhaps if your baby seems very unsettles and you have a family history (in either yours or your partner's side of teh family) of food allergies or intolerances, you might avoid those things. Sometimes you may notice baby reacts if you have eaten a particular thing, but by and large, eat what you normally eat! Breastfeeding is a normal part of life, and is not meant to be a penance whereby you must give up the things you love

    Sarah, as Barb said, most of the time foods don't cause a problem. I just wanted to add that babies' tummies are more sensitive for the first 8 weeks or so, so if you do find something that upsets them you can probably re-introduce it after that. Jack couldn't tolerate garlic or any spices (I'm not talking hot either, just mild spice) in the first few weeks, but once he hit 8 weeks I could eat teven he hottest curry with no problem!

    Ooooh Melanie, I didn't know that!! I think I'll give the butter chicken another go in that case! Last time it was a very smelly experience IYKWIM.
