I started water when we started DS on solids.....I have found that he will drink more on hot days but he still breast feeds as much as before.
He has it out of a sipper cup as he doesn't seem to like bottles.
Hey
Felix has been exclusively breastfed for 6 months...we've just started solids...though they aren't a great hit at the moment...just taking it slowly!
Anyway...I was wondering when it's okay to offer him a little bit of water...especially on hot days (it's 41 degrees in Perth today!)...
It is no way meant to take over from BM...just an occasional alternative...
Any ideas?
Oh...and is it cooled boiled water rather than tap water?

We started giving Claire water when she was about 6 - 7 months. Around the same time that she started to have solids. The watrer wasnt to replace breastmilk, it was just something extra for her. We did start off with giving her cooled boiled water. The nurse recommended we do this until she is 12 months. I dont bother boiling water any more. I just give it to her straight from the tap.
Monnie, it is ok to introduce at any time but usually for bfed babies it isn't necessary. Personally I did introduce it after 6 months or so, as I like to know that they would drink water if necessary. And certainly on those hot days it won't hurt. It is recommended that you use cooled boiled water until about 12 months, and I did this for Jack. But Tom was on tap water earlier as he would just drink Jack's drink anyway so I couldn't stop him. No harm was done!!
Cool!
Thanks guys!
Gave Felix some water in a sippy cup tonight...which he enjoyed!
Like you mentioned Manta Ray, it's just good to know that he'll take water, if needed.
Cheers!
