Does anyone have a recipe for baby custard? DS had some Heinz stuff while we were on holidays and he loved it but I prefer to make my own food for him and cant find a suitable recipe
Looking for one that has minimal sugar, and can you give a 6 month old custard that has egg in it?
And if you want to make chocolate custard, do you just add a bit of cocoa?
i make a baked custard its:
1 egg
1/2 cup of milk
1 tsp of sugar ( you can add more if you wish)
i also add either pureed apple, diced banana or sultana, optional extra though
whisk egg mik and sugar pour into a ramakin (over added fruit etc..)
place ramekin into a dish, pour boiling water into dish so it comes up about half way on the ramekin then bake in the oven till golden brown and set
This is an egg-yolk custard from a woman's weekly baby cook book I use, it is recommended from 6 months of age, which is when I started making it for DS. Of course you'll need to try just a little at first to make sure your bub doesn't have egg allergies.
Egg-yolk custard.
2/3 cup (160ml) full-cream milk
pinch of ground cinnamon
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon cornflour
1. Bring milk and cinnamon to a boil in small saucepan; remove from heat. 2. Whisk yolk, sugar and cornflour in small bowl until combined. 3. Pour milk mixture over yolk mixture, whisking continuously until combined. 4. Return mixture to same pan, cook, stirring over low heat, until mixture just boils and thickens. Remove from heat, cover surface of custard with plastic wrap. Cool to room temperature.
Ooooh, sounds yummy - Can I substitute formula instead of regular milk as my DS is only 6 months so we wont be going onto full cream milk until 12 months?
I *think* milk is ok if it is in food, just not as a substitue for breastmilk/formula until one year old, although having said that I used to do breastsmilk in custard until 10ish months as it seemed to have a lot of dairy and I wasn't sure about it, so you COULD probably use formula. Don't quote me though
ETA: Oh yeah I used to put steamed apple/pear pieces and watermelon puree in Jazzy's custard. She LOVED it!!!!!!!!!! Actually, I might make some for her when she starts feeling a bit better. And me too YUM!!!!!
