Islamic billboards? Offensive?

Ok I'm starting this thread mostly for people's opinions and definently not for a religion showdown..

So recently a number of billboards have gone up in darlinghurst, rosehill and Roselle (I think) and they are more of a billboard promoting understanding and have words including " Jesus", and the phrase "got questions? Get answers" etc..
Now a archbishop is finding them offensive and wants them removed.
Now I don't see how these can be offensive when the organization "myPeace" is trying to open an outlet for people to openly ask questions to get better understanding. Yes we believe Jesus is a prophet and not the son of god, and yea I know that fuels alot of fires in discussions, being a revert to Islam and being christened catholic as a baby I know somewhat of both religions,
So my question to you is do you think they should be removed? Do you find them offensive?

I don't understand, are they Islamic billboards that mention Jesus? It certainly doesn't offend me, but can I ask why the billboards would mention Jesus and not Muhammed?

In answer to the broader question, there are a lot of religious billboards around here, I don't find any of them offensive. Thinking of it though, they're all Christian, the only one I can think of that isn't is Bah'ai. The idea that Christian billboards are more acceptable than Islamic billboards is offensive though.

I have seen a billboard that says 'Islam - Got questions? Get answers?' or something to that effect in Rosehill. It may have mentioned Jesus but I didn't see it. I'm Christian, and I don't see how this is offensive. I see it as giving people somewhere to get answers for any questions they have about Islam. I actually thought it was nice seeing it up there.

Jesus is regarded as a prophet is Islam.

I know that, but I suppose it would be the same as a Christian billboard mentioning Jeremiah instead of Jesus y'know? Maybe I'm just confused about Islam

I haven't seen the billboards but obviously they are aimed at non-Muslims of whom Christians make a large portion so I guess that mentioning Jesus would be to engage them.
As for the Archbishop, I would think that he doesn't want any of his flock poached.

Sounds like a clever marketing campaign which may be why the CEO of one organisation is getting his nose out of joint. If he was smarter, he'd realise it's just a grab for market share and do his bit to retain and increase his customer base rather than behaving like a sook.

Unless advertising is false or offensive (some anti-homosexuality messages spring to mind), then there's no basis for one company to whinge about another's marketing strategy. Maybe the archbishop needs to get a better ad agency on board.

Of course, the idea of truth in advertising when discussing religion seems ironic and could spout all sorts of debates. I'm curious as to how it could be regulated.

Keike I think it's meaning that if you have questions about Jesus then Islam has the answer iykwim?? Trying to get people in.

I don't see how it's offensive. Doesn't concern me that it might convert people. I think people are big enough to make up their own mind on what they think the truth is.

I don't see how that is any different to churches having signs outside their buildings or Jehovah's Witnesses coming to your door asking if you have questions. I for one love having religious discussions with people, I find it really interesting to hear different people's stories and ways of looking at the world. I would think also that if you are strongly religious in a particular faith then your faith would be strong enough to not be threatened by a billboard or anyone proclaiming beliefs different to your own.

Mind you, this is just my opinion and I am not religious at all, although I used to be.

I don't find any religious (regardless of what religion) advertisement/s offensive & I don't think they should be removed.
I agree with what glenny_c has posted here - my belief is my I am happy to have a discussion with other people about their belief to gain a greater understanding of theirs and vice versa. What I don't like is people preaching their belief are better than mine - IYKWIM?

Oh no they mention muhammed (pbuh) and Jesus, etc it's just names across the top of the billboard.
Tbh, I was shocked to see it, but extremely happy at the same time, thinking that at last someone or people have opened the gates to peace and understanding...
One was vandalized on the weekend and the archbishop is saying that it is a sign that this is causing offense..
I too see it as only fair every religion should have a right but I also know religion can cause war, look at a certain country at the moment where a small minority are slaying certain Muslims due to different outlooks.
Very interesting though that some think that it's a feeling of threaten thy questions may now be answered with alittle more knowledge..
That being from a person if knowledge in Islam..

I wouldn't find any religious billboards offensive. I think having Islamic billboards is a fanastic idea, it's about time people find out what Islam is really about. As for that Archbishop, why can't Islam be displayed to the public? And those wanting to find out more about this religion can call the number or search the web, etc.

Islam is the world's fastest growing religion so therefore people are interested and want to learn more about it and as a Muslim I am glad to hear about these billboards, I hope it comes our way here in Melbourne City.
