    100kg+ & IVF/ICSI

    Hi All,

I just thought i'd start this thread if anyone wants to join me!

My story is, I am 30, DH 33. I am a over the 100kg mark and have pcos. My husband has sperm motility issues but a good count!

We are aiming for ICSI try #1 in a few months but have started to self-convince myself its never going to work due to my weight!

I was wondering - has anyone else been in the 'Over 100kg' category and still found success with IVF/ICSI?

I would love to hear from anyone who has - or anyone else in the same boat as me just about to commence their rollercoaster ride!

I am currently seeing a dietician but as you know, PCOS makes weightloss hard!

    Much love,
    Kell

    Hi Kell,

I am in the similar boat with my weight being 100kg+ but I don't have PCOS (that they can find anyway!). We are starting our first cycle of IVF/ICSI (they're going to try for a split round) late March/early April and I've also been concerned that my weight my hinder our progress. The doc advised that we have a 35-45% chance of success which is better than trying naturally so we'll give it a go and hope for the best.

So, All the *Very* best to you. I will be keeping everything cross that your first go is the only one you need.

    Regards,
    Sarah

Just a glimmer of hope, I was over 100kg and fell using IUI. I have servere PCOS and fell on our last IUI sysle before we started IVF. IT can happen but as hard as it is losing some wieght is what helped me. All the best I hope you have a lil miricle before June.

Kellijh and Smejam best of luck with your IVF cycles. I am the same as you Kell, I have PCOS and sadly am 116kg. We have tried IUI cycles 4 times, but with no luck so it is ICSI for us. Except we have made the decission to stop at the moment as I need to loose alot of wieght and have to save the $$$ for the ICSI. We will be going back to see our fs at the beginning of 2012 to start our ICSI cycle. One thing that I am told alot is that I do have age on my side, which I suppose I am lucky for but still doesn't make it any easier on me emotionally looking around and seeing all of my friends with their kids or anouncing that they are pg. Anyway sorry for rambling on. Just thought I would let you know that you aren't the only one out there. GL with it all. xo

There is hope for us all, I am 126kg and my husband is 175kg, we are both tall ( me 5'7 he is 6'3) so we carry the weight better then most. Neither if us have "weight related" fertility issues despite being told for almost 4 years by GPs that there was no chance of getting pregnant whilst being the weight we are.... In under 2 months of visiting a FS we now know that hubby has a high sperm count and high motility rate and my ovulation is out by about a week ( my hormone surge starts early and lasts nearly 2 weeks) so our issues aren't weight related at all.. Hang in there and good luck with your IVF cycles

    Hi Kelli and others

I just wanted to pop in with another bit of hope. I too have PCOS and whilst I am not over 100kg, at five foot nothing, my weight puts me well over 35 BMI, which is what my FS was concerned about. We did a split IVF/ICSI cycle last year (split as I got OHSS so had to freeze all) and on our first frozen transfer were lucky enough to fall pg. Now I just have to keep my pg weight gain to a minimum so I don't crack 40 BMI and can still birth at my local hospital and not the specialised maternity hospital.

    Good luck!
