Day 5 blast transferred had already fully hatched

Hello again

On Saturday I had an FET of a Day 5 blastocyst. It had already completely hatched prior to freezing. I know this needs to ultimately happen , but will this lower/improve my chances of the blast implanting? In other words, would it have been better if it had only been partially hatched?

I also wonder if this could mean it would implant sooner as I am already feeling some gentle cramping?

They do need to hatch before they implant, and I know they say hatching blastocysts are the bees knees when it comes to transfers... but I've got no idea if it's a problem if it has already fulled hatched! I've not heard of it before.

I would certainly imagine that it would lead to earlier implantation... and having experienced the feeling that can only be described as like an alien trying to eat its way out of my uterus, I'm convinced that sometimes, implantation CAN be felt.

What I do know is that sometimes embryos don't survive thaw, and if that was the case, then your clinic wouldn't transfer. So if it has survived all that, then there's a good chance it will go further.

Were you able to ask your FS about it? Or could you even ring the lab at your clinic to ask them?

I also felt implantation - it was like someone had pinged me!

ROFL BW - an "alien"? I agree that implantation CAN be felt.

As for the blast being fully hatched, I don't know if the standard protocol is to freeze them partially hatched, but it had to wait as it was having PGD performed on it. The nurse was optimistic about the quality - 95% of the cells survived the thaw and it was rehydrating itself (not relying on the rehydrating solution).

I don't know if what I am feeling is the progesterone or wishful thinking ATM.

I don't have any idea about the hatching part as I have only had 1 transfer of Day 5's (all the rest were day 3's) but if it is hatched and survived the thaw then that's got to be a good thing as it is already so far down the track for you. Good luck and I hope it is already snuggled in nice and tight for the long haul.

Oh, did you find out the sex of the embryo if you had PGD?? You don't have to answer if you do know, I'm just being nosy
