first time FET - what to expect?

Was blessed our first ivf cycle with a BFP & now ds is 4 are hoping our little one in the freezer is going to make her a big sis. Are meeting with the FS this week to start the process but have absolutely no idea what is involved in getting to FET. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a regular cycle? If so they will simply piggy back off your cycle. So you will go in for a couple of early scans to see if a dominate follicle is developing and to check lining thickness. Once they see you are near ovulation you will be given ovulation test strips to pinpoint your surge. They may also do blood test to confirm. You will then be booked in for transfer depending on what stage your embies were frozen at. Mine were 2 day embies so transfer was 2 days after ovulation. I was put on pessaries for the TWW but that was due to my lining being a little thin. And that is about all there is to a natural FET.

Hi Jo, I'm about to start my first FET (if AF ever arrives) after our first IVF cycle failed. As my cycles a kind of long my FS has put me on a medicated cycle of very low dose Gonal F injections from day 5 of my cycle. He told my that this time round will be much simpler and less stressful on my body. Good luck with your transfer, I hope it goes well for you.

As Janie and Mrs Mac have said, FET cycles are lot easier on the body than stim cycles.

With my last natural FET I had to go for BTs and US every second day from around day 10. That got a bit tiring trying the squeeze that in before work. Had to use progesterone pessaries from the time of ovulation. Only 1 a day at night which was ok. Much better than the crinone I used during Stim cycle.

This time I'm doing a medicated/programmed FET and have to take tablets everyday. BT and US on day 10(ish) and 17(ish). Transfer likely to be on day 19 or 20. Again I have to use progresterone pessaries from the time of ovulation. This time twice a day. One in the morning and one and night. This is slightly more annoying cause you have to lye down flat for an hour after inserting them so will mean an odd morning routine.

I've had two FET's this year - and they were WAY easier.... NO medication for me at all - just waited until my next period and checked the lining and blood test for ovulation, and then wham, they stick it in...

I did freak out a bit at my short luteal phase so he humoured me an gave me pregnyl as luteal phase support, but it was SOOO much less painful than a stim.

I guess it just depends on whether your cycles are regular or not.

Thanks everyone! First ivf cycle was pretty intense & took clexane injections for the entire pregnancy as well so that will prob still be the same. Only regular now as I still have iud. Figuring I will need a few months to get plan & everything else sorted before transfer. Glad to hear it hopefully won't be as stressful. Not liking the sound of pessaries though!
