How soon after BFN IVF cycle to wait before FET?

    Hi,
I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but I'm wanting to get going sooner. What are the reasons for not doing FET straight after failed down reg fresh transfer?
The nurses at the clinic have been a bit vague about why to wait until after the next period. They say, it gives your body time to settle down after a stimulated cycle.
I'm not going to need any meds. as far as I know, for the FET, just monitoring when I'm ovulating for transfer. As far as we know, my body is working OK and probably resets itself quite well.

The other thing is, what if the embryo doesn't thaw properly. Do I have to wait another month to thaw another one?

Want to get going on this next one....

    HI TimeforaFamily,
It's a good idea to have a break as IVF drugs stimulate your ovaries such that pregnancy or further meds (not in your case) may place your body under undue stress that isn't ideal for a pregnancy to be sustained. I know you just want to get back into it, but consider it a forced break for your ovaries and uterus to get ready for your new bubba next month! With regards to thawing, I asked this question and the embryologist told me they know about 30 minutes after they thaw if it's going to be OK (the cells are brown-ish if they have died). So if more than 50-60% of the cells are OK (your clinic will have it's own 'rules' on this) then they will thaw another embryo and watch for another 30 minutes. If it's OK (which the vast majority are) then they will leave the embie in it's culture until the transfer time, watching intermittantly to make sure it's OK for ttransfer. Hope this helps!

Remember - they are doing this because they want you to get pregnant and have a healthy and happy pregnancy - but I know the wait seems bad, it can be good to have a forced break to ready your brain for another 2WW xxx

Hi, we had to wait till my next period to do our first FET cycle too, the reasons i was givin was because i needed to talk to the IVF DR first before you can move onto a FET and so that he can sign off on it?? but also to give my body a break. But good news is once you have had a FET and if it ends in a BFN you can go straight into the next FET, once you stop your medication you will get a bleed and then you start up your medication again. Im on my 3rd cycle now- my 2nd FET cycle so it was much easier for me to get over the last one and just move onto this next cycle. The break is hard but i think it was good for my body to have that break. Goodluck with everything xx

thanks so much for your replies

thanks Matthews Mum and Lairdoz, it's good know that you only have to wait 30mins if need be to thaw another embryo

Lairdoz - Yes, I'm totally impatient. My decision to go straight ahead into a FET came down to me thinking, Could I really wait another 4 weeks? My answer was No.
Good luck for your FET#5. Many sticky vibes to you.

Oneday - good luck with FET no. 2 and cycle 3.

AFM - I've actually made the decision, whether it's wrong or right to go ahead and am already having U/S and doing LH surge urine tests.
This time when I went to the hospital I got to see the big boss and he wasnt' too phased about going right ahead into the FET straight after stim cycle BFN. Then the nurse said, yes, all the doctors have different opinions on this.
My second ultrasound is tomorrow (Monday). The first one on Thursday showed 2 follicles, one on each side. 8mm and 12mm and that was day 9 after AF. They seemed to think that was an expected progression at this stage. My uterine lining was 4.5mm which I think is normal.
This time we are planning to transfer 2 embryos, so that's another decision we have had to make. We have 3 snow bubs to work with.

I don't know, you are probably all so right. I've felt my ovaries might be over active right now. I've had a warm, swollen, feeling in lower abdomen. I'm expecting to ovulate in the next few days. Well I'll see what the scan and LH urine test shows in the morning. I'll keep you posted.
