IVF journey re-started

After trying and trying to get the $13,000 Monash IVF in Melbourne has quoted me I have quit trying and made an appointment to start IVF through the public health system with RPA in Sydney.

My cousin's husband has just been posted back to Sydney from WA, so we've spoken with her about staying there when we will be required in Sydney, but I've been advised a lot of the tests can be done in Melbourne and results sent to Sydney so we should only need to be in Sydney for a day or two here and there.

So it all starts on March 28, 2013 @ 2:10PM for me.

Yes, that's prior to Medicare rebates. Once rebates were provided it was still out of pocket over $6,000.....but of course, you have to have the $13,000 to do it. Monash IVF did agree to let me make the GAP payment only, but over $6,000 was proving just as difficult to save for us....especially when $1,600 electricity bills keep coming in for a house that is empty 14 hours a day (My next bill is due any day now and if something has not changed, I will be making a seriously loud complaint to my electricity company) and over $1,000 of our pay each month goes on fuel just to get to/from work. Every bank/lending facility I have spoken to just doesn't want to touch us...and we have no family members to ask assistance from.

I have literally tried everything to get the money for IVF here in Melbourne cause I'd rather not travel, but it's just proven to be impossible. Everytime I start getting a somewhere with the savings another electricity bill comes in, or maybe a vet bill, or most recently: a $600 on a car service + I'm still yet to replace the 2x tyres the mechanic told me I need to replace.

But we do have the $1,408 needed to do IVF in Sydney available right now, and the maybe $500 - $1,000 worth of travel is also available after next pay day.

Have you looked at the Fertility Centre in Dandenong? They bulk bill IVF and I'm pretty sure they use Melb IVF labs. I didn't know it was possible to do public IVF interstate. I also thought, but am not sure, that the RWH in Melbourne does public IVF. That may save you some travel.

i didn't even know about Fertility Centre in Dandenong - will have to look them up and see what they say!

I now have an appointment at Fertility Centre Dandenong for February 8, 2013, 8AM.
Will see what they say before cancelling the March 28 appointment in NSW.

It's Freaking me out at the moment....

My grandfather died on November 28. His first birthday since his death is March 6.
By my calculations, if Fertility Centre Dandenong can assist us, my first period after the initial consulatation will most likely start on March 6.

I'm brand new to IVF, just found out last week that it will be our only option for a second child. I'm interested to hear how the appt went with Dandenong Fertility Centre....?

Hi everyone...I see there are some new ivf'ers on this thread and I'm pretty new at this too and want some people to go through this with? Hope it's ok to join? Bit about myself....have been trying with my hubby for 3 years the usual under 30 so doctors told me to chill, but got into a FS anyway and tubes are blocked from multiple abdo surgery as a kid. Hubbys swimmers are of course perfect anyway we were told young and healthy this is going to be easy....did first cycle was told to xpect 15 eggs woke up from ET with te number 4 drawn on my hand...then told all immature. None fertilized so we are just waiting for "day 1" to do this all over again!!! I hope that I can get some chats on here cause its really hard to talk about this to friends, they all have babies and no probs, I'm also sick of people telling me it will happen stay positive when they don't have to jab themselves everyday with awesome hormones! I wanna know how other people cope with all of this and their stories soooo if anyone wants o chat I would be much grateful! Waiting anxiously....l
