What your nurse is telling you is correct, it is very common to bleed in early pregnancy, I think about 1/4 of all women do and it doesnt necessarily mean bad things. In very early pregnancy if it were a miscarriage would be unlikely to see the actual embie, often the blood is very 'clotty'. How far are you, hun?

Your Beta HCG levels wont rise 'normally' if you are having/ had a miscarriage ie wont double or triple every 24-48 hours (dont quote me on those exact figures). So a quantitive HCG may help to establish that answer.
