Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can give advice or share story regarding OHSS, even mild cases that still led to ET?
I had EPU yesterday and am very surprised at the amount of discomfort I am experiencing. I have stomach cramps and bloating. I am drinking lots of water but wondering if there is anything else I can do.
Do you know what your E2 levels were pre-pick up? If you are in that much pain, it would be a very good idea to call your clinic.
I've been through OHSS a total of three times from three different stim cycles and I can tell you that it's something you REALLY don't want to mess with!
The first two times I didn't get to transfer. I spent three weeks off work the first time. The second time was a week in hospital and over a month off work.
The third time... my clinic decided that my levels were fine for me to go to transfer (but it was borderline and they'd taken me to EPU a day early in order to help me get my first fresh transfer). This one worked - but the day before my blood test I got hit with unbelievable abdominal pain... my blood test was positive and I had severe ovarian pain right through until about 15-16 weeks of pregnancy. That was a MILD case!
Honestly, if your clinic thinks it's OHSS and is recommending you skip transfer - definitely go the freeze all cycle. It's just not worth messing with your health and your life in such a way.
On another note - day 2 or 3 after EPU has always been the worst for me in terms of OHSS symptoms. If it gets too bad, don't be afraid to go to hospital, it's the best place for you.
If you are concerned about OHSS then you should ring the clinic but not all cramping and bloating is OHSS related.. I had my first IVF cycle 6 weeks ago and I must admit I didn't expect the bloat and discomfort that I felt after EPU... It can also make you constipated which for me pushed on my ovaries and made the discomfort worse and I had 15 eggs collected.. Did you have a lot because the nurse also told me when I rang that I had to remember that they stuck a needle through my vaginal wall about 15 times which I guess makes sense for the discomfort... so anyway.. I had all this and went on to have a Day 5 transfer but mine didn't stick... I strongly urge you to call the clinic and talk to them and see what they recommend.. Hopefully it's not OHSS and you can transfer and be UTD in no time.. Good luck.. HTH..
BW- Thanks for your honest reply. I'm not sure of pre-pick-up E2. I have spoken to the clinic several times today and they have been great. I'm going in tomorrow morning for them to check me. I have been told about the possibility of freeze all and I'm o.k. with that if that is what's necessary. Thanks again.
Lil Miss- I am really hoping it's not OHSS related. Can I ask how long you felt crap for? Did you feel better by ET? I don't want ET if I feel like this. Wanted to add: GL with you FET

: wanted to add.
Hi Lovenhope
Good luck definately get them to check you out tomorrow We had to freeze all after OHSS but the dr was able to freeze on day 1 which means a better thaw rate. I was devistated at the time and really wanted to transfer anyway. Didn't as i was too sick and 4 months later used the embryos and fell pregnant with twins. So sometimes things work out for the best even when it sucks at the time
Good Luck

From memory I was still a bit crampy and bloaty... I know that the day before transfer I was at the chemist trying to find something to ease the constipation..... But it was worth it and I'm having trouble remembering how much discomfort I was in so I guess i've forgotten... Good luck Hun...
Oops.. I totally forgot but the first rule for avoiding OHSS (or at least trying to avoid) is drinks lots.. 3 Litres or more a day if you can manage it...
