Tests because of failing to implant

At our last appt, I asked our doctor if there was something wrong with my uterus etc to get the three failed transfers that we've had. To see if there is a cause of implantation not happening.

She mentioned a test they could do and I can't remember what it is and what they are testing for. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm not sure if we are talking the same things, but my FS has requested blood tests to look into potential immunity and blood clotting issues after 5 transfers - 4 failed, 1 m/c.

If this is not the thing your dr was refering to, perhaps you could post so I can follow up on my options?

Wishing you the best of luck with finding answers and successful implantation.

    Hi,

Is it Lupus? Or something similar. I also had blood tests to check my immune system wasn't attacking the embryo.

Thanks. I think it's to do with Immunity. I should have listened harder but I just thought more tests, more money. And we'd wait until we got through this cycle before going down that track. Given we've got one embryo frozen this cycle, I'll probably decide to do the tests if this cycle hasn't worked, save wasting an embryo.

Is there any solution/treatment if you have something wrong with your immune system? or does it mean you won't ever get pregnant?

I'm not sure what they can do about the immunity but for clotting I think they prescribe asprin at certain stages.

Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge on this can help us out.

I've found some information on another baby forum. Looks like they give you drugs to suppress your immune system. One woman said she'd been put on prednisolone, antibiotics and low dose aspirin. She fell pregnant after her 2nd transfer of being on the drugs. So it sounds like there is hope.

have you had your tests done yet?

I'm getting various tests done - immunity, coeliac screen, thyroid, lupus, some genetic test (karyotype, i think that's how you spell it). I'm also having an endometrial biopsy.

Good luck incomplete with the tests I think they are all worth doing.

I was diagnosed with coeliac a year ago and have since learned that when untreated it may cause infertility and m/c. You would have to go gluten-free for a while for the body and antibodies to normalise, but apparently fertility can be restored on a GF diet. I also found that my undiagnosed coeliac was a deep root of my elevated TSH which was slowing down my thyroid function.

Lupus (or anti-nuclear antibodies - same thing) is a good test to get.

There are also natural killer cells tests I think that I perosnally haven't had done but might be worth considering if your are at it and getting the bloods done.

Good luck you are doing the right thing investigating this!

Hi Incomplete, I think the test called Immunologic Testing. It is a test to check if there are any reasons for embyros fail to implant. I think I also some other girls are talking about NK cells test which is mainly test for reoccurrent m/c.

    Good luck hun!

    Hi Incomplete,
thanks for starting this thread - it got me thinking and i have just rung my FS to see if she would do some more tests to see if there is a reason we are not having any implantation success (after 4 transfers). Anyway she is sending me up the pathology slip for some more tests - ones that she does not normally do until there are more failed cycles. Not sure what the tests will be - kind of a surprise when I get them in the mail.

Thanks and good luck to you with your test.

    Hi all,

I got my results last week - I've been on holiday so didn't post. I got the all clear so I'm not sure if that is good news or not. They tested for anti-thyroid, clotting etc and everything came up as all clear.

    Hi CeCe,
If these are the same tests my FS is doing, i think that negative's are pretty much the norm. When I get the blood test slip in the mail I'll post what they are for.

I dont understand it fully, but my FS said that there are a set of blood tests that they do last eg after many failed cycles, because they almost always come back all ok and hence there is no point doing them initally...it is only much later that they do them on the off chance something shows up...or at least I think that is what she was saying...

    Hi Farmgirl,

I would have posted what the pathology form said - if only I could read the drs writing and getting the results they just mentioned the general tests not the specifics, so I'm not much help. It was about 10 viles of blood though so I guess pretty thorough.

Okay, that helps me decipher a few....

The ones I can read are:
    TSH
    Anti thyroid antibodies
    Auto antibody something
    protein C
    protein S
    Antithrombin III

I think I have the lupus anti coagulant and then there are 3 I cannot read at all.

My tests took about 5 days to process.

    Hi everyone,

I too have been speaking with FS about the issue of failing to implant. This seems to be my major issue, I stim well, good number of follies, good number of eggs, fert is fine, growth is ok (better when I haven't overstimmed), good quality blasties, but no luck with a BFP.

He has recommended the Colorado Protocol for next stim cycle, aparently designed to alter you immune system and improve the endo lining to aid in implantation. I had also asked for more tests and he has given me:

    Karoytype
    Antithrombin III
    Protein S & C
    Factor 5 Lieden
    Prothrombin gene
Anti beta 2 glycoprotein 1 (IgG & IgM)
ACA, ANA (DNA & ENA if indic) DSDNA, LAC
    Homocystine
    TSH
    Prolactin

Some you guys have mentioned, some not, and I have no idea at all what they all mean.

Will let you know my results once they are in and will stay tuned to see how you all go. Hugs xx

    Hi all,

Got my results back yesterday when saw FS for a scan - my results came back positive for ANA. This means that I have antinuclear antibodies in my blood - these attack my own cells apparently! FS did not give me many details but has said that I will have to be on asprin from the day of the transfer as my blood vessels constrict and so would reduce blood supply making it hard for the embie to implant. I'll also be considered high risk if we get pg. I'm off to see another doctor (non IVF related) at the Royal Melb Hospital on Wed (they were so good and got me in before transfer as initally they were saying they could not get me in till after xmas) to find out more.

I hope this means you are one step closer to your dream FG.

Good luck with your appointment on Wednesday and getting the answers you need.
