Arrow What dose of Gonal F were you on for your first cycle?

    Hi Ladies,

My partner and I are currently preparing for our first cycle of IVF, and due to the fact my FS says I am at high risk of OHSS, he has put me on a very low dose of Gonal F - 75 iu to be exact.

I really have nothing to gauge this by, so I was curious as to what your dosage was on your first cycles?

The reason I ask, is the the IVF nurse looked surprised when she saw my dosage, and I'm just looking for reassurance.

    Thanks everyone.

I think that's what I started out on for my first cycle - they increased it later on.
If you're at high risk of OHSS you definately want to start with as low a dose as possible.
    Good luck!

Hi. I started on 300 units but I don't have PCOS and didn't respond so they increased it to 450 units. I started to respond but not high enough so 1st cycle got cancelled. I am about to start my next cycle and will start out on 450 units.

A friend has PCOS and also only took 75 units like you, and she got pregnant. She did also have OHSS on that cycle so you do need to start out on low numbers if you are at risk.

    All the best.

    Hi,
I know what it's like- I'm on my first IVF go and want reassurance about everything. I've been started on 125. I have polycystic ovaries but not the syndrome. At my first scan FS said I had 15 follicles on each ovary and reduced my dose to 100. All is good so far but I am at risk of OHSS.
    Good luck to you!

It's very different for each lady.

On my stim cycle, I had just turned 28. I had polycysts on my ovaries. My FS put me on 112.5 iu Gonal-f per day.

I had over 20 follicles on each ovary, and we had to bring the EPU forward because I was risk of OHSS. They collected over 20 follicles at EPU and 18 were mature eggs. I then had a "mild" (but still not very nice) dose of OHSS. My FS said that he had put me on a low dose of Gonal-f because of all the factors above, and that I was lucky because another FS would have put me on a higher dose.

So yes, it's different for everyone, based on your own biology and fertility, age, and whether you've had treatment before. The first stim cycle is always a bit of a hit-and-miss because they just don't know how your body will react, and they need to weigh the risks with the benefits.

FWIW, I know a 43 y/o woman who was on 450 iu Gonal-f, and she only had 4 eggs at EPU.

    Good luck.

    First Cycle

    Hi,

I have no PCOS or any other know fertility issues. I am 36 and had a natural conception and pregnancy when I was 22/23 (I got pregnant when we were using contraception and only having sex once a fortnight so I was obviously very fertile then - my daughter is now 13). I am going through IVF because after a year of donor insemination I have not had a positive preg test. I think due to having had a successful pregnancy in the past my doctor thinks there is no reason to think I shouldn't get pregnant fairly easily (though the past year of donor insemination and crazy cycles have me worried).

I have been put on 225 but now had my cycle delayed due to them not telling me I had low Rubella immunity (they had the results for 6 weeks before they told me I should get reimmunised). Now won't start on my injections for another 3 weeks.

When I was doing donor insemination I was on clomid but my body didn't respond to it so I had my dosage increased and still only got one dominant follicle. I know the injections are quite different but I don't think my body would respond well to a low dose.

it really depends on each doctors protocol where you start off. I started on 75, the moved to 112.5, but neither amount did anything for my body - even with PCOS. But then i ended up with OHSS on 225... so your body can be a fickle thing at times!
