    Happy Channukah!!

Just wanted to wish everybody a Happy Channukah!

It starts tonight.. we will be lighting our channukiah in about an hour when DH gets home from the synagogue.

I'll take some pics and post them soon!

Yum... can't wait to eat lots of doughnuts & latkes (special potato cakes), and play dreidel (spinning tops) with the kids!

And most importantly, we were married the last day of Channukah 3 years ago, so Monday night/Tuesday is our wedding anniversary... hence Channukah being one of my favourite festivals

I can't wait to hear all about it & see some photos Yael

So today you light the first candle & then light one each night for 8 days? Is there a significance for each candle?

People interchange the word Channukiah and Menorah.

Technically a menorah is 7 branches, and used to be in the temple when it stoof 2000 years ago

A Channukiah is 9 branches, and is used on channukah, but people all talk about lighting the menorah.

Maybe i'll bring some doughtnuts and latkes on Monday night to the movie thing (yes, i'm ditching my DH on our wedding anniversary for the movie instead).. its ok, we usually do something on Tuesday night, as we were married Tueday during the day.

    Hach Samecha Yael !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually phoned you last night - as we weren't sure when to light the candles. I had a calendar that said Channukah started Wednesday... and then the Channukah in the park is on Sunday - so that really threw us!

So we rang around, and confirmed it was Tuesday.... and lit our candles.

It was really nice, having Imma there - and Shaun thought the 'singing' was pretty good... and his Aba had a tea towel on his head (as he doesn't have a kippur )

I'm feeling good - so we'll be going to Channukah in the Park.

If I don't see you there - I hope you have a wonderful wedding anniversary. What a special year... two little children!!!!!!!

    Hey Jodie,

Just got your message now... somebody left my phone in the car (thanks DH!)

Yes, it started last night, so Tuesday night/Wed is the first day (Jewish days go from sunset the night before until dusk the next day... hence my wedding anniversary being Monday night/Tuesday, even though we were married Tuesday during the day)

Not sure about channukah in the park, as my family is coming around to help do lots of odd jobs in the house on Sunday, and then staying for a BBQ, but we might all go down together for a little bit and watch the fireworks. Either way i will try and call you to see what time you are going.

    Hey guys

Its a bit of a worry when you can no longer count to 8! My anniversary is tonight (Tuesday night/Wednesday). Which is cool, because we were married on a Wednesday... i remember this night 3 years ago very clearly

Anyway, i'm just uploading the photos now.. will add more from tonight, as it looks the best with all the candles lit.

LOVE the photos I read all about the meaning behind the oily foods the other day on a foody blog I go to interestingly enough. Are the candles you have made from a special type of wax (they look like oil to me, which is why I'm asking). I'm so annoyed I missed out on the food LOL thats what I get for being busy last night
