I dunno gals, you're talking about remembering the 80s, but what about some from the 70s ...

    Famous Five tv series
Basil Brush - the original ... "boom, boom!"
flared jeans (when they were the real deal, not retro!) and desert boots
ET at the drivein (hmmm, late 70s or early 80s?)

In answer to the Bucks Fizz question - the song was "Making Your Mind Up".
And yep, my besties and I use to kick off the shoes, spray some sparkly hairspray in our hair and dance our hearts out to "Footloose" and Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited".

Anyone else remember The Banana Splits on TV - think Squiddly Diddly was one of the cartoons shown on it ... Oh yeah, and HR Puff n Stuff! TV Gold!

And what about Secret Valley from the early 80s - that was one of my favourite TV shows as a kid. I wanted to run a holiday camp for kids too!! Cooking with Peter Russell Clark use to follow Secret Valley, from memory ... ok, now I'm dribbling ...

Oh, I forgot to say earlier that FRAGGLE ROCK is on the ABC on a weekend at 7am. The kids thought I was crazy getting all excited about watching it.

Another trip down memory lane, though this is Melbourne centric and early 90's alt scene:
    * getting picked up for a 1st date in a Sandman and seeing some metal band at the Richmond Club, whilst sitting in the back, ignoring the band and snogging said date
*downing shots in the front bar of the Punters Club before thrashing away to the band in the back
    * sitting on the sticky carpet at the Punters Club on a Sunday afternoon listening to an acoustic show before wandering off to peruse the shops
*when there were real op-shops in Greville Street. Got some funky clothes down there, before it turned into the rest of Chapel St and stuck it's head up it's other end
    * dancing for hours at various levels of the Hell Fire club and every now and then, going downstairs to see people string themselves for a whipping. Politely declining having hot wax poured on me before going back for many more hours on the dance floor
*getting the gig guide every Wednesday to plan the weekend. I know this still happens, but I don't do it anymore.
    * wearing black velvet tops, short black skirts, black tights and black Docs and thinking this was cool and original

I left in the late 90's, came home eventually and no more Punters Club....and the music was loud and everyone was too young at my old hang-outs anyway

Does anyone else think that Sweet Charlie Brown and the Fraggle Rock theme tune are similar?

I knew I'd get dragged into this. It was mention of the Sooty Show that finally did it.

Sadly, I am going to youtube it now.

tashybabe - the Punters Club was the first pub I went to when I arrived in Melbourne from the UK about 16 years ago - straight from the airport I should add with my SIL who had Roy n HG on the radio who I also still have a soft spot for. I was greatly relieved to see that people actually wore black clothes in Melbourne as I was under the mistaken impression that everyone would wear white and yellow, being such a sunny country. I was devastated when it closed down.

Ah, the Punters. And the Espy as it used to be (I almost literally grew up in the Espy, my great grandmother managed it for close to 50 years and one of my earliest memories is of sliding down the staircase on my bum. Still did it twenty years later too). And the Evelyn. And wandering into the Club on Greville St in boxer shorts and a bonds teeshirt because it was just around the corner and I'd just got out of bed, and no-one batting an eyelid. And... and... (memory starts to fade and sticky carpets all blur into one, and then moved to Sydney and repeated the process except with less bands and more techno).

Tash - you wimp - declining the hotwax at Hellfire. Ah well, you missed out.

Oh and you guys must all have much better memories than I do - I vaguely remember all this other stuff you are talking about, but gee, can't remember the words or anything. All of the years spent in pubs with sticky carpets must have had their effect LOL.

In answer to the Bucks Fizz question - the song was "Making Your Mind Up".
actually the answer was "Land of make believe" - Making your mind up was their most well known hit, I wasn't talking about that one I still remember the film clip to land of make believe

    Excuse me Mrs. Older-people,

Shall I move this to General Discussion for starters? If you keep going and going perhaps something will happen, but we all know what you old people are like...'shall we talk about the old days, oh yes and...where was I...well, will someone put the kettle on then'?

    Disrespectfully yours...
