I know I dont belong here yet but I will have all 4 sleeping in the 1 room. DS goes down now without any fussing and sleeps through the night and nothing (and I mean nothing!) wakes him up. I only have 2 bedrooms so am I mad doing it this way?

Rhyb, one of mine often end up sleeping on the lounge.
We have a hyundai trajet, it's a 7 seater & I love it to bits, cos it still has all the power, but room wise, ergh there is nothing. When #7 arrives we're looking at getting a nissan patrol.
We did have a starwagon before the trajet, but I didn't like that one at all.
Car we have is a Nissan Patrol 02, heaps of room for the boys and us and we 4wd as well so does the job for us.
Rooms - I can't have my older 2 share as they fight like cats and dogs, their personalities just clash too much, so I have our 9 yr old and 3 yr old share and our 7 yr old and 5 yr old share and little Julian has a room all to himself. They each have a single bed in their rooms, because they have ceiling fans and I don't want any accidents.
I would definately look at your childrens personalities before putting them in the same room.
We are looking at getting a Ford Territory, at the moment we only have a falcon but when DH gets his licence he'll have the falcon and I'll have the Territory .
We have the boys together but they clash because DS11 is a neat freak and DS14 just throws his things where ever so we are thinking of dividing up the rumpus room and making a bedroom for DS14. When Bella is out of the cot we will put the girls together, they will love sharing, I hope.
Regards,
Dianne
mind if i pop my head in ;)
Hi Cougar.
Trillian - I am involved with playgroup and atm I love the little bit of responsibility and interaction I have. I guess I should enjoy this time more before my eldest goes to school. From what I can gather from other mums with older kids that school puts another dimension onto family life.
Nic - My best advice for decluttering is to write a list of areas/cupboards that you want to attack, then make a time (could be a week) to work on that particular area. Allow yourself a set amount of time to work on the area without disruption (that means turning off the computer and phone for me). If you find it hard to throw things out, I suggest getting a box and placing items that you are not sure about throwing away, then make a deal with yourself to throw out the items if not used within 6 months. Good luck
DianneS - I think matching personalities is a good idea for bedroom sharing. My eldest loves her own space and I don't think sharing would be ideal for her.
Amanda - Good point about celing fans..bunks are out then for us.
Oh bek EVERYTHING needs decluttering  I just find it overwhelming and don't know where to start, I start one thing then something else distracts me.. Whether it be the kids or something else then I lose my motivation..
Agh better go.. Kids are having custard as a treat tonight but alas they are still finding something to whine about
Tell you what's really fun having a larger family, BIRTHDAYS, today is Bella's birthday and from the moment she got up the kids were all over her. She just thrives from their attention. Off course they buy each other something also with their pocket money and the added bonus is that they really love giving their siblings presents. Just hearing their happy excited voices makes you forget about the bad days when they continue to nag and fight with each other :D. Have a great day all.
Regards,
Dianne
:happybirthday: Bella, I hope you have a wonderful day.
I also love birthdays and christmas and easter, I was out shopping this morning and looking at all the chrissy decorations and I could just feel the excitment building in me, because I know it's going to be an awesome day as well as tiring, lol.
I also keep saying to DH, just think about how great christmas is going to be when the boys are grown up and have there own families, it's going to be great :D.
Ok off to get munchkins some lunch.
Definately want lots and lots of grandbabies :D. Can't wait till they have their own families and all come over for Christmas.
Regards,
Dianne
I love Christmas too. Ours should be exciting this year because DD2 will have a better understanding of the fesivities. Her big sister has recently taught her Jingle Bells and it is cute when they sing it together.
How does everyone deal with the expense?
I order chrisco and it gets delivered before christmas, I usually get food/drinks and sometimes bigger items as they now do those as well and pay it off fortnightly when my centrelink payment goes in.
I also layby in the big chrismas layby specials in June-ish and then you nearly have 6mths to pay them off so it is good because you don't have pressies laying around for little snoopy noses, lol. Pick them up on chrismas eve day and then wrap, wrap, wrap after they have gone to bed.
I love xmas too.. Its so much more fun as the kids get older
I go to an online santa letter thing and get letters for the kids ( print out myself)
also Santaclauslive is awesome. My Dh's family is finnish and its live from finland. We hope one day to actually go there.
for pressies. birthday the kids get 3 presents each. 1 fun, 1 practical and 1 educational
for Xmas we usually buy one big ticket item and then a few small things each. this year all the boys are getting a green machine each but different types. Ethan is getting the big star wars one and Isaac the actual green machine and Jacob is getting another type. Livi is getting a bike.. It might seem extravagent to buy 3 of those bike things but we are eliminating fights  plus my mum and sister have gone 3rds in it with us.. I can't wait for Xmas day..
Nic - I love the idea of the live Santa. This year we are getting the girls a wooden kitchen from the Aussies Santa and DH is making a cubby house to put it in. They'll also get some accessories for the kitchen. My DH is Polish and their Santa comes on Christmas Eve so the girls will get one gift from him. Last year my SIL and I went totally overboard and each child ended up with a whole sack full of toys each. Thankfully my SIL has agreed to the one present per child idea.
Oh btw my Stepmother thought she'd tell me that because I now have 3 kids, that their budget allowance per family for gifts would be stretched over the 3 children. This means that her 2 grandchildren will be getting a more expensive gift each because there is only 2 of them:shakehead:
Just popping my head in before I go to bed :hello:
Never though I'd qualify for the large family thing ... hardly anyone I know IRL has more than 3 kids, it wasn't until I got on BB that I realised how many larger families were out there. I keep telling DH 6 is a reasonable number.... ;)
Hi Jasp - I really don't think I qualify to be here as I only have 3 kids, however, my DH works from home so I really do have 4 kids at home lol!!! We are above the average 2.3 kids and we do get large family supplement from Centrelink ($3 something). Plus I love hearing about big families, always have. As a child most of my friends came from 4 plus kids and so loved going to their houses to play...
Lol Bek that $3 supplement is helpful, isn't it
I should clarify - I don't know anyone IRL with 4 kids, and only a handful with 3. So in my world, you qualify ;)
- oh no - my boss has 4 kids. She's the only one :)
Hi ladies, just popping in to let you all know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth!! Just been really busy, with a frustrated little one I think he is teething, but he is being such a velcro boy he he he well that's my excuse anyway !!
Mmmm I dont really have a laqrge family, only 3 winkies... Have been TTC our 4th but it looks like that isnt going to happen, so I am now learning to be content with the 3 H&H winkies I have...
I have 5 sisters and a brother, I loved coming from a larger family, I think it was a great way to grow up ( not that I know any other way lol )...
anyway I hope you dont mind me joining in, I was hoping to be able to join in once I was UTD, but as I said that isnt going to happen now, so here I am
I love Christmas, I am very lucky to say that I still have a 9 yr old who still believes, which I think might be the last year, so I hope to make it speical for him, it will be a sad day when he is no longer a believer, the 1st real step into adulthood...
we use the potato method in my house, I grew up with it, so works well to keep them inline in the lead up to christmas time... ( a potato i like a lump of coal it repersents a present you should have gotten but didnt because you misbehavied ( sp?) so my lot normally get one or two... help for whe you in the shops from now on, I am foreve saying santa is watch you and counting out your spuds... you should see how fast they come back to my side ;) )
we too have everthing on layby and wait to christmas eve to pick up... but this year I have a friend who said I could hide them at her house, so we might be picking them up soon, I hate the shops in dec too busy...plus the one up here is already really cramped, I would hate to see it in dec...
well I guess I have dripbled enough crap for now.... looking forward to getting to know you all, that is if you dont mind me been in here, with only a small family...
GTF - I luv the spud idea. I hope Santa brings you a surprise;)
Bump..anyone????
Around here where I am 4 is normal - there are so many families with 4 or more children and a few with 3 and even less with one or only 2 children.
2 is the norm in our circle, but the school I have Sara into has a lot of 4 plus families.
I actually can't believe some of the comments we get with having the 3 kiddies. Its like we are a strange phenomenon (sp?)
I get tired of the same old comments
oh don't you know what caused it.. Well duh..
Geez are ya going for a world record
Surely you are done now
and the one that peeves me like you wouldn't believe
oh now you have a girl you can stop.. or you now have a girl is that why you stopped
yes my whole purpose in life was to have a girl so we were just going to keep going till we got a pink bundle'
idiots!!!!
Nic - We usually get comments like - I see your attempt for a boy didn't work, are you going to temp fate again? or You know it is all your DH's fault that you didn't get a boy!!! or You should should try a special diet if you are going to try again or What happens if you have 4 girls???
it is so frustrating isn't it.. when we had our 3rd boy one comment I had just made me so mad.. Are you disappointed he was a boy? I said yeh sure.. might put him back till his bits fall off.. such comments don't even need to be said..
Anyways how is everyone and thier tribes today :)
I have a very very very very annoying 4 yr old. He has been like this since September. I am starting to wonder if he doesn't have a virus or something or maybe he is just being a total.. poop head.
at the moment he is sitting in the hallway crying and yelling. has been doing this for the past 40 mins because................ I dared turned off the kids channel to watch the melbourne cup.. and he does it over everything.. if you don't get him a juice or cordial (no I don't give in) We have a rule. water before any other drink. So frustrating
Nic - My nearly 4 yo has become really emotional lately and she is starting to make smart remarks under her breath lol and listening...whats that???
It must an age thing then.. So frustrating. Niether of my older 2 boys did that at 4.
I do wonder if he is getting bored. it is usually to hot to go out the backyard in the mornings and if Dh isn't home or is asleep after night shift we don't do much ( no license for moi)
Nic if the others are all at school I would say its boredom, I know my youngest is the same if we dont go out ( thank God I did get my license when I found out I was utd with Ds ) ...
I found people always said when I was UTD with my 3rd... why would you you have one of each isnt that enough... now when I say I would love a 4th, I dont get as many comments its almost like its ok because it will make our family even :shakehead:, that said now I am not even sure if we will have 4...
Coming from a large family and even now telling people I am one of 7 with 5 sisters and one brother, they always ask if my parents were trying for the boy... like a boy is all they wanted and us girls werent good enough for them... I was lucky though as my brother came 1st and us girls came after, so even with comments like that we always knew our parents wanted us for us and not for the boy... not that would have been the case even if he did come last, they just wanted a big family, or should I say mum did, Dad always said he only wanted 2 or 3, not that he doesnt love us, its just the number he wanted, mum wanted 8, she lost one so in a way she did...
BHL did a turn around the other day... we have been TTC our 4th for 11mths, about 2 or 3 mths ago BHL started to get 2nd thoughts about the 4th, I was very upset, but understood, so last month I stoped temping, charting started the caffine again, but sisnt go back on anything... then the other day BHL was joking around about maybe he should give up caffine too... I was talking about someone who just had a baby, and that there are 5 woman UTD who I meet up with every week... so he come out with do you really think we could travel australia ( we are planning on this in a few years ) with 4 kids... Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr men always like to give you a curve ball... I am still not getting my hopes up seeing as its been 11mths and nothing has happened, I think I will just leave it as it is for now and see what happen, if its meant to be it will be.... we are young and have plenty of time...
I have to admit 4 is a little tough to begin with but we have settled into a nice little thng now. I can't say routine because we are fairly flexible but we have a flexible routine I guess lol
When I brought up the idea of number 4 with Dh he was adamant 3 was plenty. I used to talk and talk and beg  in the end I had decided ok 3 was enough and later that week Dh turned around and said ok lets go for a 4th haha..
so here we are number 4 and we travel Australia :) We did it with 3 kids in 06 and all 4 in July/august this year :) It can be done and is a lot of fun.. Our next trip is to WA
Ahh yeah, men & their curveballs... DH only wanted 2, then we had 3, I was dying for a 4th but he was definite.
I used to dream of babies & wake up crying :(
When I found out I was PG with AR he was more excited than me, I couldn't quite grasp it was real... so anyway he changed his tune in a heartbeat when he found she was on the way.
And when I told him about the dreams I had he said he didn't know, why hadn't I told him... becasue you were so adamant you didn't want more ! :wall:
oh well :)
TBH I haven't (so far) found four any harder than going from two to three, but I have a BIG advantage with the age gap. If I had had it my way, I would have done it earlier but I do think it's turned out for the best as it is. The other kids are such a huge help & pretty well able to look after themselves. Probably teh biggest thing is that we are busy, there's a lot more going on but she fits in pretty well & we have at least 2 days a week just at home, her & I :)
This has been very true in our case too. Plus all three including the 3 year old boy loves their little brother to pieces. We don't make the older two only do babysitting duty and never do anything they want, but they do help out from playing with or keeping an eye on the younger two. It's been a very big help and although dW is not keen on having baby's this late in life, I think it has worked out better this way.
Now she wants more and all three of the older kids want another baby too.
Rhyb - your a brave lady!
:nahnah: Methinks Dh doth protest too much about baby #4...............when I moved half our cot got lost. So they gave us $$$ to buy a new one and Ive been trying to decide whether to buy a cheap 2nd hand one to last him til he'sn 12mths then put him in a bed like the others; or if there was a chance of another bub buying a decent 2nd hand one. Or just buying him a toddler bed if we're 3 and done.
I asked Dh yesterday what I shouldn do because Stells needs his own bed now and cant sleep in a portacot forever. And he said "............I dont know, we should probably make a solid decision either way soon............." Which means he's on the fence instead of an emphatic no like he implies.
Good cause thats what the psychic said in my reading on saturday; there will be a #4 just that I should wait a bit and give me sometime to rest and recover. And that she'll be a funny little mini-me.......... ;)
Wow girls, its been a while since I have stuck my nose in here but I have just finished wading thru the pages. You have all been busy!!!
My 2cents worth on the house/bedroom thing, I had a friend with 6 kids and he extended his house from a 3 to a 6 bedroom so the older kids could have their own rooms. He said in hindsight he wished he never bothered. He said his kids became more selfish, less willingto interact with the family, etc. I have always kept this comment in the back of my mind. Since April (we left our house to do hospital for son in another town) we have spent 3 months living in peoples basements and have now set ourselves up with a bus converted to a mobile home that we have lived in since August. Space in a premium but we love it and so do the kids. It is amazing how capable you are in living in confined spaces when you have to.
We have decided when we have finished with the hospital thing (Feb 2010 God willing) we are going to travel and see a bit of this country before setting up house again. So look out for a bus with 7 kids heading your way soon!!! Starting from Brisbane area and hoping to be in Victoria to have next bay in April and then promised DSon to go and see Uluru.
WOW Hall!!! OMG wishing you all the best for your road trip! Hope it means you'll be this way!
Wishing your DS is going to be ok -xx-
Hey Storm - wheres this way for you???? We would love to call in! Good to meet you in person.
My son will be OK if the Doctors leave him alone for a while, we have a rough year with him. Were supposed to go in for one op and ending up with five. His body ended up shuting down and rejecting everything from antibotics to the dressings! Next they want to compensate fot the stuff up they did with his hip and leg by shorteni ng the good side to match (there's 4in difference). I say if it aint broke leave it alone!!!!!
To finish off the year my dd8 opened a shed (metal) door onto my ds5 while his leg got caught under - a severed achilles tendon was the result! Yes surgery for another one and a cast on for the whole summer! Bummer!
But anyway the blessings far outway the bad and the year is nearly over and hoping for no hospital visits in 2010!!!:pray::pray:
oh crickies R :( sounds like 2010 is going to be your year. We loved it when we all shared a room when we went to QLD. The only one who didnt was W as it was to much for him. But we will be giving our kids their own room's...having 2 with special need's doesnt blend in so easily with the other 2 kids as they cant get away when they need their own down time.
Jo - how you feeling lucky lady :) I am so jealous. Do the kids know already?
I am hanging for christmas this year. My brother and his gf are staying here and the boys are so excited about it. It will be the first christmas he has ever spent with them. He so doesntg know whats gonna hit him
Just crashing this thread for a moment!
Due to the fact I had a very flappy moment at the Kilsyth Pool in Hawthory Rd Victoria, I have been given 2 family passes. For 2 adults and 4 children or 1 adult and 5 children.
If anyone wants them I am happy to mail them to you. Keep in mind I think kids under 3 or 4 are free - if you will be in Melb or know someone that can use them please PM me.
