I would definitely call and send a card but a gift, possibly not. I no longer send my dad presents for example after he forgot by 30th, and all my children's birthdays for the past 2 years (not to mention Christmas) but I'll always make contact with him so he knows we haven't forgotten him even if he has forgotten us.
