I hear what you're saynig about sales, emc2, but there's honey salespeople and vinegar salespeople ... there's the venus flytraps, and the wounded bulls ... there's the [insert further superfluous metaphor] ...
And in my opinion, you suss out the prospect before determining which approach you're going to take - so you don't have people running to the hills like PZ!!
Or considering AVOs ...
In my experience, the honey salesperson approach actually makes more money, and gets a better quality downline established ... whether it's amway or tupperware or clothes parties or whatever ...
Whereas in the insurance, electricity, phone systems etc fields, you're going for a much more scattergun approach, so the "full steam ahead" technique may not be much more effective, but it saves a lot of time, making your job simpler and more profitable.
But for avon? I'd be going the softly softly, given the target audience etc ...
