I'm trying to work out what to do with a racist rant on a friends FB page. It is one that she and her hubby share and he posts the most narrow minded ill informed rubbish on there. I want to keep her on it as a friend but I can't bear him! Argh! I really want to say something but don't want to start a war on her FB page.
Nai I have family members on Facebook that have status updates that annoy the heck out of me (not racist though). I now have Facebook setup so their status updates don't show up in my news feeds and I don't have to go through the whole drama of why they were 'unfriended'
I lost an extremely good friend because she married a man who is the most racist, obnoxious individual I've ever met. I couldn't stand being anywhere near him and so I had to break off contact with her.
My MIL is extremely racist and unfortunately I can't cut her out of our lives. In fact, she's not just racist but just all over offensive on many subjects. I still struggle with how best to deal with her given the relationship, but up to this point I either give a look and don't participate in the conversation or if my daughters are within earshot I will say talk to them saying that we don't talk like that, and we certainly don't think like that.
It depends, sometimes people put their foot in it/don't realise what they're saying. I ignore sometimes, other times I say something. I've been known to say ignorant things and am glad friends have pulled me up on it.
So glad my group of friends is very multi-cultural. Juniors cousins are half Vietnamese, close friends kids are half Indian, I've got Anglo-Saxon family, Aboriginal family, & Maori family. It's awesome
