Money in lieu of a wedding gift

My DW and I have been invited to the wedding of one of her close friends. They have asked for money in lieu of wedding gifts. How much would you give?

we just got married... two weeks ago and we received from $50-$200 depending on how close we were to the person.

(we didn't actually ask for money though, we didn't ask for anything but people gave anyway)

I would give whatever I intended to spend on the gift. Somewhere in the $50-$100 for a close friend.

Was going to make a thread similar to this today! We are going to DP's close friend's wedding this weekend and aren't sure how much to give either. We are flying there as it is interstate so that is already ~$300. We were thinking between $50-100?

Two of my close friends got married last year and we gave them $100 each.

When we got married we got about $50-$100 from our friends. Family gave a bit more and close family friends. When we go we usually give about $100.

My mother once said to me that it was generally appropriate to give a gift to the value of what the meal was likely to have cost - so I'd say around $100. We did a wishing well for our wedding and most were around $50-200, with close family giving a bit more.

For weddings, we always give $100.

And I've also always worked on the basis of your gift/cash should be same as the cost of your seat at the reception.

Have to say though, that when you add the cost of a baby sitter on top, a wedding makes for an expensive outing LOL!

We got anywhere from $50-$300 so I think depends on the giver

We are getting married on the weekend and we have gotten anywhere between $50-$600 from people, mainly about $100 tho as people have said

depends how close I was to the person, but I would usually give $50 for friends and $100 for family.

Generally spend $100 on a wedding gift give or take depending on who it is etc so tend to give same in cash if doing that instead. We did go to a friends wedding earlier this year and as we spent $1000 on flights plus accom, car hire etc we only gave $30, I felt bad but on 1 wage was al could spare really.

If it is a close friend I would say $100 - there has been once that we felt we were only added to the guest list to increase numbers though and we decided to give $50 then - because we weren't really close with the couple. Depends what you are comfortable with.

I tend to agree with most we have always given about $50 for a 'friend'' and $100+ for a close friend or relative.
I travelled interstate with a 2mth old for one of my oldest friends weddings, my accom, car hire, flights and food would have cost nearly $800 and he knew $$ were tight so he told me NOT to put in anything but i still threw in an extra $50 with my dad & stepmum.

I would give $50 for normal friends and $100 for very close friends or family. I think in our circle of friends that would probably be about normal.
