I know one guy whose parents didn't go to his wedding (only son and all) because they weren't happy about his bride. nothing wrong with her, it just wasn't the girl they'd selected for him, and it never had occurred to them that he'd be so bold as to pick his own wife ... stiff brittish upper lip -v- their son ... the guy's got 4 kids now, eldest is about 20, they haven't met any of the grandkids, despite living 2 suburbs apart. It's so sad.
