But it got me thinking, what gives us the right to judge others on so many areas of life? Is it because it makes us feel good about ourselves? Is it that its easier to point out someone elses flaws than face that of our own?
It doesn't give us a "right" per se but you've answered your own question there. I think it does have a lot to do with feeling better about ourselves and feeling like we're doing the right thing and others are not.
I was wondering something along similar lines today...why do we get so defensive when people correct us? Or preach to us (religious or non religious)? What is it that makes us feel like we're being attacked when we're being advised? Maybe it's because we have all judged in some way and so when someone advises us or something we straight away shut off and feel like we're being judged and get defensive. I don't know, like you I'm just thinking out loud.
