Getting my first tatt on Thursday night!

I'm getting my first tatt on Thursday night, a portrait of Jazz. I've finally gotten over the fear factor. Not of the pain though, fear of not having a good artist! LOL! So I found one I trust with this piece and I booked it... 6pm Thursday I'm getting it done!

Any tips? I have no idea how much this is going to hurt and he reckons it'll take 2-3 hours. I'll admit, the pain is starting to scare me

good luck! the only thing stopping me getting one is the pain factor so i dont have any tips but i have heard although not related to the pain but a lollipop and a drink of orange juice before hand is good as it boosts your sugar levels which helps in some way

Getting my first real tattoo on Friday with DD#1 who is getting her first for her 18th

I am not getting anything like a portrait, like you I fear the artist doing a bad job. That is the only thing that has put me off ever getting loads... fear of bad work.

So no advice, just good luck and enjoy

    xx

    Hi Leasha,

Where are you getting your tattoo?
Apparently pain varies depending where you get it.
Honestly I think you're going to be fine, if I can do it anyone can.
I have to have numbing cream for a blood test because I will faint but I would get another tattoo anyday over a needle.
It's a different kind of pain, it's definately bearable.
I have a tattoo on my wrist which is supposedly quite painful but I was fine.
It does hurt, I'm not going to lie, but it's not a bad pain, it's fine, so relax, it's not bad enough to stress about.
I have a nose ring and that was so much worse than my tattoo!
If you're worried buy some Emla gel from the chemist and put it on the area an hr before you go, this is what I use for blood tests, although I didn't use it for my tatt and I managed fine, I was able to watch the guy do it, have a convo etc.
Good luck, hope it looks awesome, post pics

I'm getting it on my ankle. Well, not ON my ankle, on the inside of my leg above my ankle, but not quite my calf.

And LOL at the nose ring, I've got one too, and an eyebrow one. The nose one stung a lot!

They do hurt but nothing like a contraction!!

I have 5 now all over my body and they each hurt in a different way. Youll be fine - My Tat artist always says woman sit better than blokes due to our higher pain threshold!

Enjoy... once you have one you will be adicted!

How exciting!!! Doesnt hurt too much at all. I think the anticipation is the hardest. It is such a great shot. I am sure it will be worth any pain that you have. Good luck!!!!!!!

I always take ibuprofen before getting tattooed, and also a good book to read (the kind that absorbs you so you loose your surroundings). Most tattoo artists that I know like to work without chatter anyway so they can concentrate so don't feel read about just sitting there quietly. It's not that bad, honestly. I would rather have a tattoo than go to the dentist any day of the week.

Here it is! IT IS AWESOME!
It was great, I enjoyed it! Didn't hurt, just a bit scratchy, but the hair on my neck stood up when he did a bit towards the back on my leg (part of her right arm, that was a bit ouchy lol).

Teirae, I went by myself but that was fine as he was very chatty haha! And... I already have my next one planned
