None of my boys have expressed an interest in getting their ears pierced yet, but I suspect when DD eventually gets hers done at least one of the boys will want one pierced. I certainly wouldn't say no to them based on their gender, and yes to their little sister. The after school care teacher at their school has lots of piercings and brightly coloured hair so it's all pretty normal to them. DS2 in particular looks up to him as a bit of a role model so I wouldn't be shocked if he wanted his ear pierced to look like him.
ETA just asked my husband for his opinion, and he agrees with me that he sees no reason for boys to be older that girls in order to get their ears pierced.
None of my boys have expressed interest in having their ears pierced and my DS1 thinks they look horrid. I don't like ear piercings on males. My DS wanted to get snake bites a while back (2 piercings in bottom lip) and we told him he would have to wait until he was at least 16 to get it done. By the time he was 16 he was well & truly over them.
I agree, facial piercings are a lot more visually confronting and I suspect would be more prone to infection/scarring. None of my kids, regardless of gender, will be allowed any before 16.
Personally I can't stand seeing boys with earrings. Even when I was at school and had loads of piercings myself, I didn't like that my boyfriend had one LOL. So my answer would be no, I wouldn't let my boys get their ears pierced, but then Mum only ever 'let' me get one in each ear and I ended up with 5 in each ear so I may not have as much say as I'd like in the long run. Same for my girls. My kids play sport too where they can't have them in and it is a PITA when you have a child or several children who hole up a game while they take their earrings out at last minute.
I don't really have an issue with boys having earrings. My dad got one when i was young- actually it was a bit of a joke to annoy my nana (his mil)- which backfired as he'd gotten it in the wrong ear- which my nana smuggly pointed out (it was and is still one of those funny moments we look back on) so he had to go back down have it done again- so he took my brother who would've been about 8 or 9 and had his done too- my brother had been asking for one anyway. My DH also has his ear pierced- so its really the norm in my family (and alot of friends to). I've got my ears pierced- 3 on one side, 4 in the other- including some up top of my ear.
My DS1- who is almost 3 has been curious about our earrings lately (and my nose piercing). I asked if he wanted an earring- just to see what he'd say and explained it was a needle in the ear- he said no, but I've always said that when he or his brother ask for one then we'll get it done. Even if they are 3 (i was just over 3 when i had my first ones done- i'd been asking mum apparently- and i never had a problem with them). I know this is going against the grain in here- but hey each to there own...this is just my opinion.
DS is in yr 8 this year, his good friend has a bloody eyebrow pierced. Doesnt look 'right'. there's no way in hell id allow this. until he's 18. maybe abit earlier but a earring (not facial). Ive had bad luck with my body piercings. Dont heal. So i took them out.
