Hi there,
Currently doing my first cycle of IVF, did my first scan on Friday and was told that i have 7 follies on my left ovary under 11mm's and 5 on my right under 9mms, so i was told to continue with my injections and spray over the weekend and come in on monday morning for another scan and bloods.
Since i am new to the IVF journey, i was wondering does this sound promising?? I know everyone is different but thinking realistically, and from others experiences is this a good start??
TIA for your words of wisdom xx
Hi Everyone...
Just wanted to update you on my scan that i had this morning - i really need your help now as this gets more confusing by the minute!!!!!
Well you know about the results of Friday's scan, the nurse has told me that today i have 3 follies that are 11mms and that was it - she didnt mention the rest of them And i have no idea what to think, very confused. Does this mean that something happend to the other follies??? Are they just so little that they are not worth mentioning?? Or did the ultrasound lady miss them???
I have to keep on doing the injections and the sniffing till Thursday now and am booked in for another scan. Is this common?? I also have PCOS so is this common with PCOS??
Sorry for so many questions, i am just very confused now. I thought i was going ok - i guess with the whole IVF journey the key is never feel comfy with a situation as it changes so quickly and throws things at you that you would never expect.
TIA for all your wealth of knowledge. I am going to take some panadine as i have the biggest head hurt right now. Very confused.
hugs xx

: updating
Hi M24
Sounds like you're on track to me! How's your estrogen doing? They are looking at both the size of the follies and your estrogen level to determine when to go to EPU. Good luck...will be following with great interest!
Hi m24!! 12 follies is great. Thats great especially being your first IVF cycle, and that means well, that your first cycle is sort of an experiment- your FS wont really know how you will respond to the meds until your bloods and scans. You prob have a few more days on injections to make the follies bigger, but i think you should def be happy
Like Ellie said, they will be looking at the number of follicles you have corresponding to your estrogen levels and your estrogen levels should be increasing nicely. I think (not definite) that one of the nurse said that the estr level per follicle should be around 500-600 when ready for EPU.
Good luck for tomorrow, hope things go really well.
Mel
I had around 13 at the first scan, then 18 at the second & my third showed 26 which is where it stayed. Some were too small to use, but we ended up with a total of 9 eggs out of that lot. So from my very limited experience, 12 is a great start.

Hi
If she didn't mention any others, it may be that only 3 were 'bumped' up to the next size bracket. Perhaps you should call and ask - someone can take a look at your file and let you know the full story.
Also, since it's your first cycle, it's a bit of an experiment with doseage and timing. That said, 12 follies to begin with is good - you're definitely responding. It just might be taking a bit more time for them to grow big enough, is all. I usually had to stim for 9-10 days before trigger - so 3-4 scans during that time.
Yep I'd agree with Marcellus. To start with they were only telling me the count of the biggest ones, then after a few scans I'd get a total count & then the sizes of the biggest ones.
Fingers crossed for lots of nice big follies at your next u/s
