I have been reading through all the material SIVF has given me....just wondering about the option of trying for twins. Does anyone know much about this re risk etc?
If they have a couple of good embryos is it a good option to try for twins or remain with one at a time? Are the Drs acceptable to trying for 2 or does it pose a risk of MC?
Gingie,
I had 2 embryos put back after discussions with my IVF Doctor and also a multiple pregnancy obstetrician. One didn't make it, so I ended up with a single baby.
Some of the people in this thread are having PGD to reduce their chances of miscarriage - in other words they aren't trying to dodge a specific gene, rather to avoid a cell-division-problem. For these people no-one seems to want to transfer back 2 embryos.
The people who are using PGD to dodge a specific gene are in a different situation. Putting back 2 embryos may be OK in this case. It depends on all sorts of things - your age, the number of embryos available, and so on.
WTH - great news re your embies. Sounds like at least 3 should be good little toughies. Praying hey all get to test day AND come back normal.
Gingie - Most IVF clinics are ver against 2 embyro transfers. twin pregnancies carry all sorts of extra risks and ultimately they just want people to have a "take home" baby. That said, we may well put 2 bck in if we are lucky enough to get two good ones. The cost of the whole process is a big factor for us so we may only be giving it 1 go and I don't want to run the risk of losing an embryo to the freeze/thaw process. Many Drs will actually say NO to 2 embryos. Mine is going with the line that 1 one would be her reccomendation but she understands and would agree to 2 if that is our choice. Just have to accept all the risks
Sara and CP - Guess you guys will be joining me very soon on the FSH stabbing?
Me - collected my large bagful of meds and paid up today. Bit scared by the reality of it all about to start. Will start everything tomorrow including FSH E2 patches ,Prednisolone, pregnyl... man, going to need a checklist every day to be sure I've done it all. Even my nurse was overwhelmed by it all...
First scan on Firday which seems ver early but guess they want to be sure about when to start the antagonist.
The moderators think it worthwhile trialling an IVF with PGD sticky thread based on the discussions you have been having in here. Normally when a thread gets to 300 posts or discussion goes off topic, we close it. However, what we will do is close this thread today and link it to a new sticky thread for you to continue your discussion in and see how it goes over the next month.
We ask you to keep your discussions relevant to IVF with PGD and if discussions become too general or just IVF cycles in nature we will direct you to the LT or LTTTC/AC general discussion threads. You can post in those threads as well if you would like, but this new thread will be focused on the issues associated with IVF and PGD.
Let me or any of the LT mods (Sushee and Gargy) know if you have any questions or concerns.
Happy chatting and of course good luck to you all. Your new thread is here.
