    After ET

    hi Girls
I know there is probably a thread somewhere for this, but i was wondering what everyones protocol was for the week(s) after ET. Im getting so much conflicting advise and as i am one of those people that find it very difficult to sit still, my family have taken it upon themselves to direct my life after ET. Do you all take it easy or carry on with normal life? My FS said modify slightly while the nurses have said modified bed rest ( my mum has already told me im not driving for a week ) I think because of the ectopic last time im a little concerned, but at the same time you cant keep putting your life on hold?

yes this is something that i find really difficult

i have done all types of rest, no rest, carrying on with normal and TBH i fell pg with all the times i carried on as normal, i sadly mc but due to other issues which i am in the process of working on.

the best advice i was given that helped me get through was

Do all that you feel comfortable with.......

I know its a bit empty ended but if you are content with all that you have done you can look back and say oh if i didnt do that...... just go with your gut

i modify my life a little, but not too much. i have leave for my TWW this time around, but mostly because it's easier work wise to not be there the week of ET (hate swapping days at the last minute when BT say's it's all go!) - and the second week it's for my birthday so totally unrelated! lol

i've done both the full rest, and the go to work. i find i "survive" better if i'm distracted - now, for me, my job is easy and a pretty good distraction - but it really depends on what you do for work. i think modified bed rest is taking it a bit far... and no driving??? hmm, family mean well, but i'm sure they all need to realise that driving isn't going to make any difference!!!

i mostly just restrict things in the same way i would if i was pg - no kitty litter, no heavy lifting, none of the "no-go" foods - but apart from that, it's just life as normal. i'm home alone most of the time due to DH's job - no choice but to do things cos there is no one else to look after me!

I continue everything as normal, within reason. Obviously no mountain climbing or anything too strenuous, but I continue to work (unless a transfer falls in school holidays) and do my normal thing if I'm feeling up to it. If I'm too tired to cope with something, then I don't do it. I've fallen pg with an embryo transfer in the middle of the busiest time as a teacher, and again fallen pg with an embryo transfer and the TWW completely in holidays. I really don't think it makes any difference just so long as you don't go overboard with anything.

I have found that I cope mentally and emotionally much better with the transfers that happen while I'm working rather than the ones on holidays. I need the distraction. Like BG I also make the appropriate diet modifications. Every day at work this year I have eaten a chicken salad wrap bought from the school canteen. It's going to be tricky explaining away my reason for stopping that when I return to work tomorrow!

What I'm doing with this transfer is going to be dictated by my process of recovery from EPU. It's my first fresh transfer, and I really don't bounce back from anaesthetics and other procedures terribly quickly!

In summary - tell your family to butt out and mind their own beeswax (probably a good idea to acknowledge that they do mean well at the time!), just do what you feel comfortable doing, and if it's something you're not comfortable with, then don't. I figure there's no point doing something for the TWW if you're not prepared to maintain that for the entire nine months!

i had my ET on monday 28th April..... YAY what i normally do is have the first 2 days off work and then i carry on with life as if i was preggers. i believe that if the 'little buggers' aren't going to stick becuase i catch the bus to work or walk to a meeting during the day then it's not meant to be ..... it's all about survival of the fittest!!!!

life has to go on as normal..... or you'll go MAD!!!!

does anyone know where the TWW tread is???

I've tried it all, and to be honest I believe you carry on as normal as long as you feel up to it. Bedrest plays with your mind because it stretches out the TWW like crazy. The one cycle I had success, I went straight back to work the next day and did whatever I usually did.

    Hey Scooby,

I have tried it all too. I really believe that if its going to work it will. Obviously i would not lift any heavy items, get rest, eat well , look after yourself. I know for me i llike to take 2days after ET just to relax and kick back but this is only to make me feel good i think. I have had 3 FS doctors and they all say go on with life normally - look women out there that are not going thru ivf would not even know they are pregnant and carry on as normal the only difference with us is we actually know we have an embie floating around in there. Good luck with it all and i truly hope a BFP is coming your way.
