I was on AD last year and i know that my FS said he would prefer me to be off them while TTC, but my GP said sometimes women have to be on them while PG. I guess its not ideal but if it has to be done!?

I would discuss this with your FS

I've done a few cycles whilst on AD's. When we were commencing it was a real concern of mine. My FS (at the time) was very non-commital about giving advice and told me to ask my GP. My GP told me to ask my FS.

I think it was through BB that I heard of an advice line in Sydney which provided infomration about medications etc in pregnancy. I rang them and was told that the ADs would not harm the baby during development but to decrease the dose close to EDD to avoid withdrawl symptoms. I've told my FS and the nurses at the clinic that I'm on ADs and it's never been an issue for them.

Good luck with your decision(s) and convincing DH.

It depends on the type of antidepressent medication you are on. I was told the exact same thing as CeCe - that it's not going to cause any problems with the development of the baby, it's not going to interfere with IVF in any way, but the baby will have withdrawal symptoms when born if I'm still on a high dose. I had planned to wean myself off them before Sam was born, but he arrived early and beat me to it. We didn't notice any issues with withdrawing from the medication in him (I was on the lowest dose possible by that stage) when he was born.

Also wanted to add that going through IVF is incredibly stressful and if you are having problems with anxiety and/or depression before you start, then it's going to be even harder on you. There was a point in time where my FS could see that I wasn't coping and insisted I stop cycling and go see about getting help. He practically insisted that I be medicated (in addition to seeing a psychologist for councelling) in order to help me cope with everything that was going on.

It does depend on the type of AD your on. Most don't interfere but as the others have already said its a good idea to wean your dose closer to EDD.

Its also important that you use therapy in conjunction with AD. This is proven to help more effectively than just using AD alone.

Did you doctor say that sometimes AD's are only used for 6-12 months? Most people are only on AD's for 6-12months.

How bad were your symptoms off AD's, maybe there is a reason for you to be on AD's. Its also important not to just come off AD's and stop suddenly. Its better to wean off them. I suggest you talk to your doctor about it and see what she/he comes up with.
