After finding out one of my tubes is completely blocked and the other partially blocked we were told IVF is out best option to concieve.
I have no idea the expense of this and was wondering if someone could give me an approximate cost of IVF? I am looking for a goal to save towards this hopefully next year.
I am yet to have a detailed discussing with my Gyaenocologist about where to go from here.
Also can you unblock a tube thats partially blocked? I thought the dye was suppose to help unblock it. As one tube has no chance of being unblocked it is worth the risk trying to improve my remaining partially blocked tube?
Hey!
I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have both tubes blocked and had endo which has been removed. I had 2 HSG's to unblock my tubes but as they were so blocked in the first place, they just seem to close up again and my Dr says that in his experience, 9/10 that is what happens.
I had IVF this year in July and went with QFG in Brisbane. Our total out of pocket cost was $2500. We had to pay $6300 initially to the clinic but received $5200 back from medicare and then the rest of the cost was the theatre costs because I don't have private health cover.
I am so glad that we did IVF (it resulted in a BFP) and wish that I'd just bitten the bullet and done it 2 years ago when I got my diagnosis. But I guess I just wasn't mentally ready for it then.
Thank you so much for your reply. I had no idea how much I would expect your average treatment to cost. CONGRATULATIONS on your BFP. So exciting to hear about your success and that it does happen as I am feeling very down about the diagnosis and knowing the chance of conception is basically nothing (well without assistance)
My private health insurance doesn't cover obstetrics and fertility assistance. I don't want to go through another 12months trying and then go to IVF. We have found it so emotionally draining as we have had 2 m/c and the thought of waiting another 12months with still no baby is torture. I know IVF doesn't guarantee you a baby at the end of it but it does give us hope.
I have read the clinic we want to use is $8000-$9000 but wasn't sure about the out of pocket expense then I have heard some are like $1500 upwards. The clinic we want to use is a private clinic so it might be a bit more expensive. I am pleased to have some sort of figure in my head so I know what to be saving for per treatment. And I have heard it goes up in the new year.

If you follow the link that smithy has posted you will see a long discussion on the costs. It truly does vary an awful lot, and you shouldn't feel at all bad about 'shopping around'.
I'm sorry I can't help with your question about unblocking tubes.
