    difference between period and implantation?

Hi all, I've been a lurker for some time but now I'm tapping into your advice! We've had 2 IVF cycles over 3 years, both cancelled before egg collection. This one made it through to a day 5 transfer, which was yesterday. They had a LOT of trouble getting the blasty in and ended up having to clamp my cervix and pull it to get things to open up. I don't know if anyone else out there has had this done, but it's easily as painful as it sounds! Anyway, that made me bleed a little fresh blood, which stopped almost right away. Today, over 24 hours past the transfer is a little brown spotting. I am SO CONFUSED! Is this more likely to be: left over bleeding from the cervix clamp, my period (dammit!) or some good news????

It's most likely leftover blood, yeah (and that does sound really painful, you poor thing!)

Welcome to BellyBelly and good luck!

I agree with MadB, but in terms of blood loss after my transfer, I had a little blood about 24 hours after my transfer, and it was a straightforward one. I had an implantation bleed about 9DP2DT, to me it looked and felt exactly like my period. I even rang the clinic and told them that they didn't prescribe enough crinone and I was very upset as I had asked them about the strength of it because I transfered from the progesterone pessarie for the cycle (progesterone was one of my issues)

Good luck, I hope this is your sticky embie!

I would say it was a leftover from the messing around with your cervix (ouch), brown is old blood. In my limited experience my implantation bleeds have been pinkish I think. Its too early to be your period hopefully.

Come over to the LTTC TWW thread if you want to analyse all your symtoms with me, I'm currently 6DP5DT and going mental!!

    Good luck!!

    What they said!

I went by rule of thumb: brown is old blood = not bad news

I also had spotting (bright red) one morning, promptly burst into tears and rang the clinic and told them it wasn't working. Turns out it was implantation bleeding which I hadn't noticed (or even known about) with DS1 because he was an unplanned pg and I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was a couple of months along!

Congrats on getting through to transfer - hope you've got a sticky one there!
I know too well the pain of a tricky cervix and I'm sorry you had such a traumatic transfer The blood will be from your cervix being scratched yesterday, and should clear up soon.
When I got my bfp my only symptom was af type cramps starting the day before my bt which continued strongly for 3 or 4 days an then on and off for the next few weeks.

    Good luck!

    Hi erina. Welcome to BB.
I agree with the girls, think its leftover blood. Implantation blood wouldnt happen so quick. But if it does happen, dont be too concerned about what it looks like. My first one was brown and mucus like, where as this time it was bright pink and exactly like start of AF. I even rang the clinic and told them i was ready to start next cycle as AF had arrived. The diff. I think is, it only laated a VERY short time - a few drops really. GOOD LUCK!
