    Follicle count????? Your experiences please....

    Hey guys,
I am on my first IVF cycle and I wanted to ask how many follicles people showed on their first scans.

I'm in shock - I have 18!!!!!!! 10 on one ovary and 8 on the other.
My FS said that I was bordering on overstimulation but my bloods are perfect so he is happy with that number.

I am on 150iu of puregon.

What have others' experiences been and do you think that this is a good number? Or is there a risk that those eggs will be of poor quality because there is so many?

I just wondered what people thought.
    Thanks in advance
    Sue xxxx

    hey hun

18 is awesome, you have done so well

each person is different, so therefore they will have a different response. i know there are ladies in here that have had numbers in the high 20's and more.
as long as your levels are looking good there hopefully you wont over stimulate, but drink pleanty of fluids and rest as much as possible, just to be on the safe side

when are you having egg pick up?
i wish you all the best and have everything crossed that you get a bfp

    Hi Sue,

Your numbers are good! Keep up the fluids and get lots of rest.

I had over 20 follies, which resulted in 18 eggs at EPU. It might have been more but I was at risk of OHSS and the FS said we had to go in and get them now, or cancel the whole thing. I had mild OHSS afterwards. We ended up with 15 embryos, 14 of which were frozen and one transferred.

I was on 112.5 (iui?) of gonal-f, and triggered with pregnyl. Apparently my gonal-f dose was relatively low, but I responded very well because of my age, and also because I have polycystic ovaries (not the syndrome, just the cysts).

I guess everyone is different. I'll be thinking of you - GL for your EPU and the meeting of the sperm and egg!

18 is great, i have pcos so got higher numbers (near 60), high egg numbers, but crap egg quality (out of 22 eggs, only five fertlised but all were good quality embryos) - don't stress on the follie count too much - the important thing is egg quality which, unfortunatley, you won't know about til the day after epu when you find out your fertilisation rate

    good luck!

Sue, that's great that everything is going well with your first stim cycle

It's also about the size of the follies at the scan as well, as you can have immature eggs amoungst those follies.

I am on the other end of the spectrum (so to speak) I only showed 8 leading follies on u/s, and had an EPU of 23 this cycle, 12 fertilised.

My eggs were good quality this cycle, even though I had a high number

My best advice to you is to plan to absolutly rest after EPU, it is an amazing experience, but one that left me completly drained, so be prepared to put your feet up

Well done, and fc for the rest of your cycle

Im with BG! i had so many that they struggles to count them! lol collected about 28 from my last cycle and 23 ferterlised, and finally 12 blasties! so it is not a reflection that more eggs are always poor developers! everyone has a chance.

i would say the number you have is fantastic and i would pray for a figure like that. well done! hoping OHSS stays away and that you are soon in your TWW. x

Girls, thanks so much for your responses!!!!

I am very happy with my count, and just hope that there are some really good quality ones there.

Egg pick up is scheduled for Monday so that is good news. My FS was like "woah" when he put the ultrasound wand in there. I kind of freaked for a minute but he just said that he wasn't expecting to see so many right there in his face!

He said that in hindsight he might have put me on 125iu of puregon but I've had a good response and he is happy with that.

I'll definitely keep you all posted over the next few days. And I am hearing you on the rest thing. I tried to run for the bus this afternoon to my appointment and felt like my insides were going to fall out - so no exercise for me certainly until next week. More than happy to rest up!!

Thanks again lovelies, your input is so very appreciated.
    Hugs to all

    13 is great! Congratulations.

We only ever saw 7 on my u/sounds and I was pretty disappointed (only have one functioning ovary though) but when I woke up from EPU they'd collected 14 and we had 100% fertilsation, transferred one and have 10 in the freezer.
