My husband and I rang our Fert. Clinic to see where we were up to on the waiting list for donor sperm.
We have been informed that from the 1st of January 2010 there will be no clinic in NSW or VIC which will be using imported sperm. Apparently it is a state govt thing. Soon to be rolled out across the country. Apparently QLD is next.
We expressed our anger at the situation and was directed to call or write our state electoral person. My husband and I are also going to get in contact with the IVF access Australia people.
I don't think this is fair at all. Why does the govt give $5,000 to one set of people who can conceive naturally. And then takes and takes and takes away from us who would dearly love kids and can't.
The govt have taken away some of the medicare rebate and now they want to stop us accessing overseas sperm when there is a shortage of sperm donors in Australia. I want to know what right do they have taking away the rights of those who are trying everything to have a baby. For some overseas donors might be their only choice.
I can only see this creating a very long waiting list for sperm.
