Our Furbabies...

Ahhh what a busy couple of days!

My Jaz is definitely preparing me for babyhood! She sleeps on the floor in a bed next to ours and ever since we got her 2 years ago I have not slept a full night, as she needs to go to the toilet every morning anywhere between 1am & 3am. I wake up instantly at the sound of the shake when she gets up.

Well in the last week we have had 3 loooong nights of storms, and she is terrified of storms. About half an hour before they hit she jumps up on the bed, whimpering & licking me frantically to wake me up, we then snuggle up and she relaxes and goes to sleep. Then she's snoring and twitching away so then I can't sleep, yet I don't move her.

I know it's all my own fault for letting her sleep with us but after everything she's been through I don't have the heart to boot her outside, especially when I know how scared she gets. We did try for a little while making her sleep in the spare bathroom but all she did was cry & yelp & scratch all the paint off the back of the door. So that put an end to that!

And this morning amidst the dust-storm mayhem the little miss is yawning away and lazing on our bed. I found myself going in and closing the blinds and doors for her so she can get some sleep in the dark... Oh dear I think I need help LOL

BOC - your baby is very spoilt indeed - but I know how easy it is to get wrapt around their little paws!!! They so know they have you right where they want you! But on the flipside - a baby like that with the history she has had - she deserves all the spoiling and loving anyone or thing can get!

AFM - We have a gorgeous little lab x staffy - he is the absolute best guy in the world and seriously shares the love around in our house. He is also known as 'lover dog' amongst his other few names - cos he is mad for a cuddle. He sleeps in the garage where we put insulation in just for him and he has a great bed with loads of blankets. During winter tho he was inside in our room on some blankets, but once the cooler nights started fading we put him back out, he seems to like his bed out there anyhow. Also we too were getting woken up with the doggie dreams; the yelping, twitching and funny noises!

I have to say he is like our child and I think with our IVF journey, like with any troublesome time in your life - he is there to make it better. I just love how their love is continuous, non judgemental, he is never moody always happy - I just can't stay grumpy or really sad when he is around.

And we are so lucky that he is soooo well behaved, a little cheeky and fantastic with kids of all ages - so gentle and loves their attention.

*sigh* Oh I miss him now thinking of him here at work! Wish I could post a pic of him!

Airline - What a great idea! I've enjoyed reading about everyone's furbabies . Your Logan sounds like my Bella!

HollyM - I love the name Sushi!

BOC - I so love hearing stories of rescued animals (although I wish there was no need for a rescue I the 1st place!) and I'm glad that Jaz has found a great loving home . How crazy is this dust storm!!! I'm at the Gold Coast and we have it here also!!

Infinity - I must admit that we are exactly the same in that I see all of my furbabies as my 'kids' he, he!

LondonMiss - Ooohhh.... LondonMis, I don't know how you do it! It would be hard to let go of your furbabie after a year!

Sue1979 - What a great name also - pickle, he, he! She definitely sounds like a character!

Nix76 - 'lover dog' sounds a little like my JD. So full of love and always looking to please!

AFM - We have 2 Kitty Kats:

Bella Lasagne (or Bella for short) - We took Bella in after a friend moved and she is a big softie at heart even though she acts so independent all the time! She is always the one who comes and sits by my side when I am really upset and gives me lots of smooches.

Soxy Woxy Woo Woo (or Soxy for short) - We got Soxy form the pound when he was a kitten (he is now 3). He is an absolute character and I swear that he thinks he is a person, he, he! When he wants a drink, he will meow and jump into the bath tub and wait for us to turn on the bath tap! He sleeps every night with us and DH constantly hugs him like a teddy bear (I even get jealous some times!). He picks on Bella sometimes as he is more playful and has now started to chase the dog around!

JD - We also got JD form the pound when he was 6moths old (he is now 2). He is a staffy/ boarder collie (short hair, black and white with a staffy head and big collie ears tht stick up!)and definitely has ants in his pants as he just can't keep still (I have to run him every day otherwise he gets ADD!) He has an absolutely gorgeous nature and can't sit more than 2m away from us at all times! He is great with the cats and thinks it is all a big game when Soxy chases him!

How freaky is this dust storm??!!

Nix ... you hit the nail on the head...animal are never really grumpy (well cats can give you the cold shoulde sometimes ) and they offer unconditional, constant love. They're always so happy with a tickle/cuddle/ball throw/feather on a stick play. We're lucky to have them to help us through the hard times. If only they knew how valuable they are to us.

Coral...your JD sounds like my Dakota..she forgets that the cats are just not impressed with her playing antics, and does the whole play bow right in front of them, bum in the air wiggling saying, c'mon you know you want to!!

Dakota's settled in her bed with her 'blankey'..a red blanket she takes and chews gently in her mouth then falls asleep with it still in her mouth...she's almost 4yrs old

I'm really enjoying this thread, keep 'em coming, it's nice to know we all share something else in common other than needles...synarol....multiple follicles etc

Airline - what a great idea! I often see furbabies listed in peoples signatures and wonder about them!

Don't you just love animals - they do the funniest things, have their own little personalities and will love you unconditionally.

We have a 1 year old fawn pug named Jack. He is the most mischievious little dog you can imagine - he deliberately runs off with socks, jocks, towels etc in the hope you chase after him. My DH and I call him the little terrorist cause he is always up to no good.

Exactly - so nice to chat about something lovely. I'm afraid to say that our beautiful dog passed her tests with flying colours again this morning... so I'm stuck between fierce and rather smug competitiveness and the horrid thought that it makes it more likely she'll get picked first for her age group. Remind me again in Feb that I volunteered for this....

I love all your names. I'm kind of lucky in that Customs have a whole bunch of rules we have to follow (to prepare them for a life as a working dog) and one of them is that she always sleeps outside. Although I will admit that when it's really stormy, if I heard her, I'd probably let her into the kitchen.

BOC - have you tried those patches you can get for dogs to wee on inside? MIght work and let you get some sleep! I've been whinging about getting up at 6, but 1-3 is hard work!

Londonmiss....congratulations!!! well done for your furbambino...I don't think I could do it though...hand them back after a year. Very commendable...wish there were more people like you and anyone who rescues animals too.

Just come in from work at 1am...DH working so routine is...feed cats first...I get to pee second....Dakota gets to come in and lick empty bowls clean 3rd then gets her nightly 'chew'....... Now they're all in bed..and I'm still here. right gotta go.

[Motherhood here i come!]

Morning All,

Intro to my 3 furbabies. I know, you must think Im crazy to have 3 and you know what, your probablly right and I too also think Im crazy for having 3 but now that I have them, I wouldnt have it any other way.

So first of the rank is Pippa. We got her from the pound when she was about 9mths old. Pippa is an Australian Terrier. Such a cute little miss she is and the look she can give you sometimes just makes your heart melt lol. She is my token red head dog lol (Just like mum) and is now about hmmm 18mths old. I took her to our community dog school so she is relatively well behaved. When it was just her here, we used to let her in all the time and she would sit ever so well behaved in her little bed we got her and watch TV with us . Even though its been a while since she has been inside, when I let her in quickly the other day, she still knows to go to the loungeroom and sit in her bed.

Second is Max. Max is also from the pound. Right place right time kind of dog he is. My husband was there just "looking" and Max being a whole 6wks old was just having his final check with the Vet for release and so he was able to nab him before anyone else. Puppies at the pound go oh so quick and there is always a line up as to who was there first for them so thats why I refer to him as my "Right place, right time" puppy. Max is a Wire Haired Fox Terrier (Black and White). He truly is my baby. His the sook of all 3 and loves nothing more than big cuddles. I would say that his a med sized dog so when I sit on the grass out in the backyard and he comes running, i brace myself lol. Because he is a wire hair terrier, he has the lovely fur growing up into his eyes. That said, today I take him for his first haircut. I hope he doesnt hate me too much afterwards lol. He always has this loving look when he looks at you. I can be hanging out the washing and there he will be, right at my feet just quite content to have some form of time with me. He definately loves his belly rubs too. One scratch on the head and over he goes, waiting for the belly rub and a play of chasing mums hands.

Third is Jack. Jack you could say was the mistake. DH and I own a pet store, 90% aquarium fish (Were closing it down because working 7 days a week is no good and were trying to settle and get into more of a routine before a bub comes along) one random day a guy came to our shop and asked if we would buy him. DH called me and after a quick discussion, told the guy we could only pay $70. Method to our madness was that the guy would want more and not take it. However, as you can see, he took it lol. Thats how we got Jack. Jack is a Purebread Minature Fox Terrier (Black and White) and he has a smooth coat. His only just a couple of weeks younger than Max actually. And he too was a ripe old age of 10wks when we got him. His our mischeif maker and little rascal, always into everything and he would have to be could i say the most "Talkative" of all 3. He too though is a little darling and he is small enough to fit neatly on mums lap. One very "Talkative" night lmao I had to bring him in and so I laid on the lounge and he laid on my belly and went to sleep.

So as you can see, they are all very different. Pippa thinks that she can do anything and rule the roost whilst Max will just sit there and watch and doesnt really care too much and Jack, well he will just take what she hands out but only to a certain extent and then its game on.

Oh might also add that on top of the 3 dogs LMAO here I go, we have a hand raised Galah named Matilda. She talks and when were in the aivary will come and have cuddles with you. Then there is our 3 hand raised ****atiels that live in the house, Noddy (when he was young he would nod his head hence the name), Coco as in Coco Chanel because she is a beautiful yellow just like the perfume and then there is Ducky aka Clarke Kent/Superman. Ducky talks and Says hello. He brings a smile to your face no matter what and there is nothing better than uncovering them of a morning and having him there readdy and waiting, wolf whistling and then saying "Hello". Lastly, I know, I know we refer to this place as the "Zoo" there are our 4 fish tanks with many many tropical fresh water fish. We have 2 tanks that are 6ft long by 2ft high by 2ft wide, another tank that is 4ft long by 2ft high by 2ft wide and then a standard 2ft tank LOL.

Well this has to be the longest post in history and I can hear the furbabies as well as Matilda calling. Now you know about my whole family lol. Makes you wonder with all this going on why on earth are we TTC LMAO.

Oh, I just love this thread-it's so great to read about other peoples fur babies. We have 3 dogs who all came from the RSPCA. We got Ellie just 3 months after we bought our house, for me the biggest incentive to buy was so that I could finally have a dog after years of renting. Ellie (named after my grandma Ellen) is a Fox Terrier x who has more energy than anything I've ever seen. She runs around constantly and everything is a toy for her. But we could see she was bored while we were at work, so we went back to the RSPCA to find a friend for her.
So along came Jessie, who is a Maltese x and named after my Nan! When we saw her at the RSPCA she was very small-she looked about 6 months old when she was in fact 2 1/2 years old. She had lost a lot of her hair due to the stressful situation she was in (I didn't ask what that was as I knew it may upset me!) and was very timid. But I went in and let her sniff around me until she felt comfortable and a few minutes later she was sitting in my lap trying to lick my face. There was a huge dog in the cage next door barking at us like crazy and when DH said 'sit' to him this tiny little dog sat straight away-we knew then we had to take her home. It took a few days for here to come out of her shell and she had to learn to trust people all over again. But now she is so outgoing-I call her our little attention seeker. She has gained weight, but is still small for her breed. She loves people and will lick anyone anywhere, given the opportunity! As far as we were concerned we had our little family, until a year later when we got another little fur bundle.
I had a friend who'd lost his Rottweiler to cancer after having her for nearly 10 years and when he was ready to get a new dog I suggested the RSPCA. He isn't very internet savvy, so he got me to show him the web-site. There was nothing he liked at our local shelter, so we looked at the shelter 2 hours away from here. There were no dogs there that interested him, but I saw 2 little Chihuahua x's that I fell in love with! So I went home that night and said to DH "We are taking a drive tomorrow" and explained why! He thought I was quite insane but agreed, as he knew I wouldn't want to go if I wasn't serious. So off we went first thing the next morning, though he did lay down the condition that we could only get one more dog! The Chihuahuas were housed together with a little Terrier x, but one of them showed no interest in us at all. The other one, who was just tiny, came right up and started licking our hands. When the little terrier x came up to the bars she actually nipped at her as if to say "These are my people" and so it was decided. She came to live with us the next weekend and we named her Lilly, after Alyson Hannigan's character in How I Met Your Mother. We should have known by her behaviour at the shelter that she had an attitude problem, but she's slowly learnt that she has to share us with her sisters. Her and Jessie don't always get on, but they sleep together in the same kennel every night, even though there is another one there! Now Ellie is 3 1/2, Jessie is 5 and Lilly is nearly 6 years old and we celebrate their birthdays and give them treats at Christmas. People think they are spoiled, but I just think they are getting the life they deserve after a rough start! People can never remember which dog is which, so they are collectively known as Jelly, which I think is cute! I was amazed by how well they handled it when DD arrived-they are so respectful of her! Lilly doesn't get jealous of her as she does with other dogs, Jessie doesn't try to lick her nearly as much as I expected and Ellie has decided that since she can't eat her of play with her she will jsut ignore her!

I've actually noticed that myself, but those I've seen have been just gorgeous! We had 2 children knock on the door one day with a pug they'd found wandering the neighbourhood asking if she was ours. DH quickly sent them on their way knowing if they didn't find the owners we may end up with a pug to add to the family!

I love this thread.

We have one furbaby, Scratch the Cat. She was a stray that DH collected many years ago - so we can only guess that she's now about 12 years old. But she plays like a kitten and makes us laugh. She also sleeps on top of me during winter - never on top of DH. If we swap sides of the bed, she still manages to work out where I am and sleeps on me. Sometimes she perches on top of my hip or my knee, and moves with the doona when I roll over.

Her favourite game at the moment is to chase DH's phone cord around the room whilst DH or I drag it along the floor. She goes berserk.

Whilst Scratch is most definitely DH's cat, she is such good company to me, particularly when DH is away. We've only just got our first BFP, but I feel like we'll be welcoming the fourth member of the family, not the third. Scratch, after all, runs the household, and she knows it.

Scratch has Kidney Disease, so has to have a tablet every night with dinner. She hates it so much, but she puts up with it, almost as if she knows deep down that we're doing it because we love her. I dread the day that her kidneys finally give out and she starts to suffer.

I love this site too - because arent pets and animals just the best thing on earth!
I couldnt imagine a life without my animals.

We currently have 1 cat Nelly, 2 dogs Bundy & Tess and 3 puppies left from a litter of 5. This is the third and final litter of pups for Bundy and Tess because each time Tess has had to have a ceasor. This last time was definately an accident. As lovely and cuddly and gorgeous as they are we have to sell all of them as 2 dogs and a cat and hopefully a baby soon is more than enough.

Nelly was my sisters cat up until about 3 yrs ago when my sis started to travel around Australia with her hubby. They ended up living in QLD for quite a while and so eventually we made a deal that Nelly would become ours. I've never really been a huge cat person but she is just the most affectionate and gorgeous cat and she loves me to bits. Now I just love cats almost as much as dogs.

Our dogs are Kelpie's and they were working dogs and pets and now that we are not farming anymore they are just beautiful pets. DH had Bundy when we met but he was only about 6 months old, so I have pretty much known him his whole life. He adores me and dad - he's so lovable. You say give me a kiss and he gives you a lick on the face (so cute). Tess is mums girl - she doesnt leave my side and is the most affectionate and loyal thing. The type of dog that when you stop patting her she puts her paws on you to say dont stop. They are both extremely intelligent, loyal and well-behaved. The best companions in the world!

What a great thread! I've been giggling over all the pets' personalities and what we let them get away with
We have 2 furbabies. Picky is a ... something (kelpie/collie cross?) ... and she's 5.5 years old (wow, where did that time go?). She's an old knockabout, very faithful kinda doggie. She's no paragon of beauty, with weird stripes of extra fur along her back, around her neck and on her tail, but there's nothing like having her look up at me with her ears all tucked back, big smile on her face, and tail sweeping the floor. Whenever she settles down for a snooze she lets out a loooong groooan. She's a guts. She has a big vocabulary and knows just about every synonym for "tuckies".
Suave is a red kelpie we got as a pound puppy about 1.5 years ago, and we think she's about 3 years old. She has massive ears that don't stand up, and an overbite, so you can see her little white top teeth sticking out most of the time. She looks hilarious when she tries to snarl and look mean. She's pretty, though, and always gets all the attention from strangers, which she's not really interested in - while our other furry daughter sits patiently, wagging her tail and waiting for her pat Suave was SO jumpy and shy when we first got her, we were worried she would stay that way. We don't know what kind of life she had before. But just yesterday I was lying out in the backyard with her, she rolled onto her back for a tummy scratch but wasn't quite close enough, so I pulled her over to me and she didn't flinch at all! She's made a lot of progress
They both supposedly sleep on doggie beds in the loungeroom, but sometimes if I get up during the night, I hear a little scrabble of paws, and judging from the guilty look on Suave's face and the warm patch on the lounge, she sleeps wherever she pleases!
The best part of my day is when the dogs hear us start to wake up - they come BURSTING into our room and frantically nudge our hands for pats, tails wagging wildly, until they're ready to go outside.

Aww I love reading about everyone's furbabies!

Sushi also sleeps in our room. She has a bed on the floor next to ours but more often than not she hops up and sleeps with us! She very much thinks she is a human - she won't drink water out of a bowl, it has to be a glass! She is always calling out to us to follow her - she's a real chatterbox. At night she sometimes gets really playful and will start flicking things around the room and jumping on and off the bed - attention seeker much??

Sorry I'm not a LTTTCer but I thought I'd share my story because she really is my baby too! They really are more than just pets. They are a part of the family and I reckon furbabies are better than most humans - they don't talk back!

Loops, you can tell the way you describe them that you love animals. My DH was more of a dog person...then he became 'stepfather' to my first 2, Missy and Milo...then he 'got one of his own' Logan! Now he's definately just 'dad' I still think he loves the dog, Dakota more though...but he'll deny it!

Calin...Suave, cool name and I love dogs with overbites!!!! They look soooo cute!!!! and sometimes a little dopey! whenever DH or I arrive home, Dakota's at the door waiting with her tail beating a rhythm on the wall in anticipation....which is great when DH has come off nightshift and it's 6am!!

Hollym ... thank you so much for popping in, I'm sure at the beginning of this thread if I look back that someone else has a cat called Sushi, great name!!
